i just orderd a sony dvd-rom OEM from newegg. I got it today and first thing i did after removing it from the box was carry it upstairs to my computer. I as was walking and moving the drive around a bit i heard a noise, after a bit of "testing" i found that the noise was most noticeable when rotating the drive side to side. it sounded like something was shifting or rotating inside the drive. I decided to test it out anyway, and put it in my computer and it seems to be working fine, tested it out with a DVD and it plays fine using PowerDVD.

As I ejected the disc I heard a similar noise, that i'm quite sure was actually the mechanism that spins the DVD still spinning down even though the disc had been ejected, so I'm also assuming this is the noise I heard when I had the drive out of the case.

I've never expirenced a Drive (CD or DVD) doing this before, and I'm debating RMA'ing it, even though it seems to function fine, I'm worried that something is indeed wrong, and may fail in the near future because of this problem.

So what would you do if this was yours? and has anyone else ever expirenced this "problem" before, maybe it's not really even that big of a problem.

I've seen labels on drives saying that a rattling sound is normal. If it works I wouldn't sweat it.
