What is the difference between this mobo and the first one? Only thing i see is sata at 300 vs 150.

Here is what I plan on doing

I have a opteron 165 and plan on overclocking it to 2.6ghz or so

I am going to buy a 1900xt or 7900 gt/x dunno which yet. Doubt i will o/c that

Grabbing this set of ram to help my opty reach 2.6ghz

I will have all my parts all ready to go except my vid card and monitor (2407)

Now what I want to know is how well does the asrock board o/c? I hear so many people buy this mobo. Is it better than the one I currently have?

I also want to know if its worth the investment to go asrock? Its a budget board and so is dfi and you get what you pay for and since the dfi costs 20$ more is it better?

If i go with dfi I would have to run a old pci card that has 16mb of ram for possibly up to 1 month. Is it worth the sacrifice? Since my old 9800 pro isnt pci-e.

What would you do in my situation? Keep the dfi or switch? Keep in mind I get store credit and possibly have to pay shipping charges there and back and a 15% restocking fee so im getting screwed lol.

Looks like you're getting high stuff everywhere but the motherboard. 7900 and 2407 are real unknowns when they'll be available/released. The Asrock is a cheap board to get til the 7900 comes out. Or just buy an eVGA 7800GT to hold you over and step-up to a 7900 when it comes out.

To get your opteron oc'd to 2.6, you can use any ram using a divider but your ram choice is a good one.

ok i guess you just skimmed through my long post. Anyways I currently HAVE the first motherboard listed in my possession. But I can trade it in if it isnt so well. I cant just buy a new motherboard I have to RMA the old one and get it replacement while paying all shipping charges and 15% restocking fee.

I didn't skim. I said you're using high-end stuff but the motherboard. $30 to ship/restocking fees isn't a big deal if you're spending over $2000 on a pc. I also said you could just buy an eVGA video card(to use w/ your current board) and use their step-up program when the 7900 comes out.

Check out DFI-Street to get opinions on your current motherboard. If you plan to oc, I do not believe that the Infinity DFI boards have the extensive bios options/settings as their higher-end offerings.

I would exchange for a cheap 939 AGP board and use that 9800 for about 2 or 3 months more until they have the 7900's out or until the x1900 becomes a bit cheaper. Or better yet: wait until the directx 10 cards come out. Since you dont know which brand of videocard u want, waiting until you decide on the card would be best.

I want a system within the next month. I will possibly resell the vid card when dx10 comes out and buy one of those but that will mos likely be early next year before I do that. I want a vid card that can handle 1920x1200 max details on today's games and future games such as ut2k7.

Im not rich and am trying to save every penny i can.

Only reason why im spending so much is because im reselling my old parts and some junk and getting about 1,000 dollars plus have like 100$ in my paypal acc lying around so i will only spend roughly 500$ total because im getting a free psp in the mail soon and will resell that as well.
