Should I replace my Cable modem?

I currently have broadband service from At&t since last year and currently lease my modem. They gave a 3com modem (3cr29220) and I recently have found out that 3com stopped making and supporting their modems since early last year. Everyonce in a while my service light go out and I have to powercycle the modem or my connection stays really slow 24/7. I call technical support and they constantly give me the same answers. They have checked my lines many times and found no problems and have even told me many times that I have one of the strongest connections in the area I live. I just wondering if my modem is have some kind of problem and should ask At&t to replace it since it's no longer being supported by 3com or just go out and purchase one my self. Has anyone asked for their modem to be replaced? If I purchase go out and purchase one what is a good suggestion?
