Should I register or not?

I've never missed an election. I've even voted in the off-year petition elections...

But I'm in a blue state with a native son running for president... a guy who is going to win 80/20 barring some kind of instantly fatal disease that targets only democrats.

I'm not holding my breath.

If I register and vote for Pal... err... McCain I open myself up to all kinds of horrors, like jury duty. If I stay quiet and accept that the local guy is going to win, what do I lose? I fail at my civic duty, theoretically, but I get to remain annonymous in the eyes of the guys who need 12 people to weigh in on a random DUI case.

My vote means nothing here... Dukakis almost won this state for crying out loud.

What is your opinion ATPN? Register and suffer the bane of jury duty... or... accept that Obama wins this state with an electrified Dem, local boy electorate that will also cause every other Dem candidate to ride that wave to office and sit back, have a beer and let the system do its thing and keep myself off the radar?

It was easier in Alaska. They didn't use voter rolls... thy used the PFD list. At least we all got paid to enter the jury pool.

I think that if your allegiance to this country is so etheral that you won't even under take the sacrifice of POTENTIAL jury duty sometime in the future, you have no reason to either register to vote or to live in this fine country. You are a leech, pure and simple.

And you should certainly hang your head in shame during the remaining time you are here, and every time a fireman, police officer, or soldier walks by.

I'm disgusted at the self-centeredness of some people.

Well he does think Palin would make a good President so he might might be intelligent enough to vote.

I know I am tempting fate with this one however I am in a similar situation as you, living in MA my state is as blue as blue can be, yet typically I vote republican (one time I strayed and ended up voting for our current horrible gov who is a joke)

My vote feels like it is wasted, but I wonder with your mention of jury duty if my being registered a republican saves me from that :) I haven't been called for ages.

You're kind of damned if you do damned if you don't as you voted for Bush who also turned out to be a bad joke.

Register and vote for a third party candidate. Show the Big 2 you're thinking outside their little box.

Are you sure that registering to vote gets you signed up in the jury selection pool? IIRC some states are moving to where when you get your license you are registered. Just something to think about.

Why would you want to avoid jury duty? I'd love the opportunity to serve on a jury and balance out some retard.

^^ Co-signed, help the country break out of the two party system and vote Ron Paul. Even though he's a guaranteed loss, the more votes he gets the more open the country becomes to having more than two parties.

People who don't vote don't count in the political arena, and neither does their opinion.

Register and vote, or STFU.

Why the hell do you give opinions on this board if you don't even participate in the electoral process?

What are you.... some kind of free-rider? I hope you are NOT calling yourself a conservative.

IMHO, people who do not vote have 0 right to bitch about who got elected to what. I am sorry, if you don't participate, I don't feel sorry for you.

By next September, six of the nine Supreme Court justices will be at least 70 years old. Justice John Paul Stevens turns 89 in April.

The next president might have the power to shape the Court for decades. Possibly appointing SIX picks? There's a reason to vote.

Yes, but certainly not for Sarah Palpatine.

True.

But the justices don't always reflect the president. Look at Sandra O'Connor.

Complaining about jury duty, something that is helping your society, makes you look like a pussy. No offense.

Or David Souter. Or Anthony Kennedy. Or Harry Blackmun. Of course, it appears that only GOP presidents have issues nominating justices who drift off the reservation. Democratic presidents are better with their litmus tests.

In most states they get juror rolls from more things than just the registration lists. In California they use DMV records as well. So, there's a good chance you're already liable to be picked for jury duty anyway, might as well vote for what you believe in.

Exactly, how many of the people that complain about the intelligence of juries do everything they can to skip out on one? Though with the jury I sat in on, three of us had graduate degrees.

Just my opinion here but I think it is our sacred duty as citizens of this nation to vote. In a way it validates all of the sacrifices and bloodshed that those before us have made so that we can still have this right.

I can just as easily not vote and it would not even have the impact of 1 drop of water falling into a lake but I do so to pay homage to those ideals that this nation was founded on.

Yeah jury duty sucks. But our duty to this democracy of OURS is even greater in my opinion.

Democracy is not a spectator sport!!

The only way democracy truly works is when informed citizens participate.

What sort of pathetic, sniveling asshole would consider not voting just because there's a chance they'll end up on a jury? People like you make me want to puke.
