Hi
I just finished setting up my new SSD (intel x-25m 80gb), but realized its running on IDE control. Should I reformat and do it on AHCI, or does it not even matter?

Also I have a 1TB storage drive as well as a DVD burner in the system, would changing to AHCI affect those components?

Short and sweet thanks for the responses

AHCI has nothing to do with the partition table so there is no reason to reformat. The only issue you might have with AHCI is a potential driver issue. If you set it to AHCI and your system boots properly then your good. If you blue screen, you might need to download drivers for your controller.

AHCI will affect all devices attached to your SATA controller. Basically it adds additional additional features such as hot-swap to your controller. It's not necessary, so if you have problems you won't miss out on much. It has nothing to do with the 3Gb/s spec, so you won't loose speed by not using it. At best you may see faster access times, at worst very little difference at all.

You're missing out on a crapton without AHCI if you have an SSD.
