Should I put the insurance under parents name or mine?

Haha, guys this is with an upstate zip code. Since I'm here 10 months out of a year. I should try to go to an independent agent and see what I can get from them.

Well I've been looking for some car insurance for a 2003 Honda Accord LE. All the quotes are so expensive, Geico quoted me over $11,000 a year. The lowest I saw was like $7800. I'm a 19 year old male in NY. Anything I could do to make insurance cheaper, or anyone know any better companies? I can't afford to pay that much.

Edit: I was curious because if I ever do crash, can't they sue my parents instead of me? Another solution would be to get a car that will not cost as much for insurance, any suggestions?

Ummmmm, I can't believe that you would pay $11,000 per year. Perhaps I could believe $3,000, but not much more....even for your age in NY. Keep in mind, you get discounts for being a good student (assuming you are one yourself) and for taking a driving course. I would stay under your parents insurance for now...perhaps when you are 25 and rates go down, then you can switch. I am currently under my mom's plan and I pay ~$700/6 months (which is too much in my opinion...but next year, it will go down drastically).

BTW, Geico sucks...I have statefarm....try progressive online...who knows.
