For me i was a little tired in class. You can sort of concentrate as long as it isnt anything demanding.

no you will be listless and brain dead the rest of the day. you will feel awake when walking and talking but tired and sleepy when sitting still.

Sometimes it's very peaceful, because you can get all your work done and be relaxed later on. Also, make sure to do things for yourself - go outside for a little bit of time or something, enjoy the sun rising, etc.

All nighters are horrid...
Did them a couple of times. I don't recommend them unless you HAVE no time left.
And if you don't plan on doing anything intensive the next day like what "Tasmanian" suggested then I say you should go for it.
I know for a fact that I can't use my brain properly the next day.

I once did 10 make-up physics homework assignments (I had been sick for 2 weeks) the night before the final. No sleep, lots of tea/coffee/soda. Despite getting every answer right on the HW, I failed the final due to (IMO) lack of sleep. Not to mention I felt like utter crap the rest of the day, and ended up falling asleep in the late afternoon completely screwing my sleep schedule. Fortunately, the rest of my grades were relatively high, so I slipped by with a C.

Unless you have no other option, Sleep >>>>>>>>>> Work.

It's different for everyone/every major. Essentially...yes, but no one will likely ride you about it. It's up to you if you want to do the work or show up for class (in most cases).

When I pull all-nighters (or, as is more often the case, get only ~2 hours of sleep), I'll usually feel surprisingly awake and alert for the majority of the morning. However, once early afternoon hits, I'm going to crash...and quickly.

As for how much homework to expect in college, most professors will tell you to spend anywhere from 1-3 hours preparing outside of class for every hour that you spend in class. However, as LoKe said, it varies drastically from person to person, and from major to major. Here in grad school, it's closer to a 10/1 ratio at times.

I was writing a paper last night and fell asleep around 6:30am. I was dead tired all day.

That being said, I pulled all nighters much more frequently in high school than I do now in college, but that's because I've learned how to manage my time better.

I pulled an all nighter once in college studying for a Physics test and fell asleep during the test. That was my only all nighter ever.

I'm doing another one tonight. My sleep schedule is all messed up from working weird hours/sleeping weird hours. Plus I haven't been good about time management lately and as a result I need to get a lot done with a limited amount of time.
