Should I power down my XBR4 when my cable box is switched off

I'm using a Sony XBR4 TV connected to a Moto DCH3416 DVR box via HDMI. If the XBR is switched off with either the DVR or the XBR remote and the cable box is left on, then I must cycle the cable box OFF and then ON to regain control of the cable service when I switch the TV back on again.

If however only the cable box is switched off, the "SONY" light below the center of the flat panel fades to dark and the screen goes black, and the picture returns instantly when we switch on the cable box - which is much more easier process than switching both devices.

Does this mean that the XBR places itself in "standby" mode when the cable box is switched off and no signal is received while the XBR powered on? Am I missing something in my set-up/settings or is this behavior expected?

Is it less stressful on the TV to have the XBR idling with a black screen 24/7 or should it be switched off when we leave the TV for significant periods of time during the day or at night?

Many thanks.

Turning off the TV should not affect the cable box unless you somehow programmed the remote to turn off both the TV and the cable box simultaneously. I always turn off the TV and leave the cable box on. But in your situation, it doesn't look like you can do that. Do not leave the TV on black screen 24/7, that's the same as leaving the TV on 24/7.

Yikes. Definitely do not leave the TV on like that 24/7. Just because the screen is dark doesn't mean its not fully powered on. You're burning up a lot of electricity (and life of the TV) doing that.
