I got a blister from running yesterday. I've read on the net that you shouldn't pop em :S

How long does it typically atgke for them to heal themselves? It's pretty small. They say that you shouldn't pop it because it exposes a very fragile skin under it.

Cut a small doughnut shaped piece of foam and tape it over the blister. You can also use a moleskin bandage, but the average person doesn't have those sitting around. ;)

Don't pop it unless it is excessively swollen, turning odd colors, or appears to be filling with blood.

If you must run on the foot or walk long distances or something, it might be a better idea to use a pin, douse it in a disinfectant, and make the smallest hole possible, and press the fluid out. No matter what, do NOT tear off the skin. Let that fall off on its own. Avoid doing this if at all possible though.

It's not just that the skin is very sensetive, it's that it has NO protection from germs and bacteria. The feet are a breeding grounds for both of these.

Make sure you wear clean socks and change them in the middle of the day if your feet sweat.

If you know anything about the the cycle by which skin falls off and replaces itself, then you will know that your body has about a 3 day cycle for replacing skin. If the blister got through only a couple layers of skin, then baby it and you'll be fine in about 6-9 days.

If it's a reaaal bad blister, it may take up to two weeks before it feels better, but it's even more important to keep the skin on there.

Wow, thanks for the response! :)

Let's hope this bitch is only here for 3 days! :S I don't want him around for much longer.

Don't do it. I got one on my foot yesterday from soccer. It was under a calous, and now the calous is gone and the "very fragile skin" you speak of, is... well... very fragile now :)

If you are going to be running tomorrow, poke a hole and drain it. If you do it properly, the skin will have stuck back underneath by the next day. Otherwise let it heal by itself.

I used to row so I dealt with blisters on my hands everyday, then had practice again the next day.

In the movie Gladiator (which was totally the way it REALLY was back then), wounds were dealt with by filling them with maggots. This is called HOMEOPATHIC medicine. Modern western medicine is for bouguois capitalists.

If you don't have maggots ready at hand, just pop the blister, tear off the skin, and hold the foot near a fly-infested dumpster.

I have a blister/infection inbetween a fat roll of mine (near the crotch area). It hurts quite a bit, but not as bad as yesterday. I lanced that sucker. Puss and blood went everywhere, it was nasty, but it relieved a ton of pressure.

If it is an infection, better talk to a doctor. If it won't heal by itself, it could sprawl in other areas of the body.
(ok, I don't think I would talk to a doctor for something like a small infection and a little blood. However, you better do so :) )

It will heal almost completely in a week, but even after two weeks it will still be a different color than the rest of the skin. In two weeks will be as good as new ;)
I've put some Baneocin on it while it was wet (Baneocin is some kind of powder) to dry it up. After it was completely closed, I used some ointment.
However, mine was a burn.
You should be ok in two-three weeks, with no scars at all.

Well, I just got back from the doctor because it's been all itchy.

The blister is like a raised, dark colored area now. He said it looks like a keloid scar...

Does anyone know if it's supposed to look like a dark color (like dark brown) and be raised? The doctor seemed rather clueless.

I'm actually really concerned :( If it's a keloid, i'll have to get surgery to get it removed.

It sounds odd that it would be a keloid, though. Noone in my family develops keloids, and I have had surgery before and I didn't get a keloid. To get a keloid from ALL 4 blisters seems very odd. None of the areas I had blisters on doesn't look like this. Although I have never had blisters before :S So I don't know how they are supposed to look while healing.

Also, I've read that a keloid is supposed to extend beyond the site of injury. These scars are within the site of injury.
