Hey; My thread got resurrected!

Since I've posted this I have actually finished TW1. As most people said, it's slow at first but it picks up after the first 5 hours or so. Totally a worthwhile game for those who are willing to invest some time in it. Really hoping for a Steam sale over the holidays so I can pick up TW2. It looks excellent.

Thanks ! I'll pick this up on Steam maybe on a Black Friday sale.

So it is worthwhile to go back and play the first one?

I just impulse-bought both during the sale. I tried TW2, and to my surprise and delight I think I'll be able to play it maxed out (based on how the tutorial played).

I played the first one all the way to the burning town and quit for some reason; then my HD crashed and I lost al progress. I've tried replaying it once but it felt tedious, and I didn't get very far.

Are the carry-over saves worth an entire replay?

Absolutely.

Burning town... isn't that Chapter 5? If so, you reached nearly the end of the game. In your situation, I guess it isn't entirely important that you finish, unless you really want to see the conclusion.

Are the carry-over saves worth an entire replay?

I played TW2 when it first came out, and I imported my TW1 save. Turns out I had a shitload of money carried over. In the middle of Chapter 2 I took advantage of this and went on a shopping-spree, bought a really badass sword and armor.

It's up to you.

The carry-over saves are definitely not worth playing TW1 for. Very little carries over. You'd be better off replaying TW2 and choosing the other path at the end of chapter 1 (which makes a great difference - you get about 25% new content).

Personally I never got into TW1 despite tyring it again. The general concenus seems to be that the game greatly picks up once you're past the burning village and get into Vizima. If you're still not into 3 hours or so after that point (like me) then I'd give up on it.

I guess I'll just play 2. There's too many good games I haven't played yet (and my time is too limited) to spend dozens of hours rehashing what I've already experienced.
