Should I play the Witcher 2 before TW1?

Well the Witcher 2 is out, and it looks great. Reviews are positive, and the game looks great. Not to mention it is one game that is really catered to PC gamers in a sea of cheap console ports. This has me much more excited than I really thought I would be for this game. Problem is I haven't played the Witcher 1 yet! I picked it up from steam for $15 quite a while ago, but I haven't had a chance to play through yet. Normally I would just burn though the game, but I am under the impression that a first playthrough of TW1 will take 40-60 hours. So should I hold off playing TW2 until I have a chance to play through TW1, or should I get TW2 now and go back and play TW1 whenever I get a chance?

I'd play TW1. I'm replaying it currently to remember everything plus you can import you save from TW1 to TW2, iirc some of your big decisions are what are transfered over and affect some things in TW2.

Plus TW1 is a great game, no reason not to play it first especially since you already own it.

I asked the same question in that Witcher 2 thread.. and now I am playing the original Witcher.. currently in chapter 3 and loving it. I got it for only $5 from GoG.. best $5 spent to date. Loving every minute of it.

About how long is each chapter? Maybe if I start playing it tonight I can have it done in a month.

Put it this way,I'm glad I played the first one since I knew nothing about The Witcher before I played it,now I know what he is all about ie friends, enemies etc and know what potions are important in combat plus what magic he has and difference between silver and steel swords to name a few.

It gives you a very good insight into what Geralt(The Witcher) is all about ,so yes I recommend you play the first one and stick with it,it starts a bit slow until you get into town on Act 2 etc...

I'll be playing Witcher 2 in a hour or so for the first time(installed the game so I'm ready to go ) ,now do I import my saves ?(I hear you can).

I am in the middle of chapter 3 and spent ~25 hours on it. I am trying to play everything.. and if you want to finish it faster.. play on easy mode.

The question you should have also asked yourself is, "Do I need to open a new thread for this simple question or should I use one of the existing The Witcher 2 threads where it is entirely likely that others have also asked the same question"?

🙂

Answer: Yes of course I do! 😉

Can anybody confirm that your story decisions really do carry over to the second. I'm also debating on whether to finish my Witcher 1 game the second play through, currently on chapter 4 to get a save.

And you should ask "does it REALLY matter?" If a guy has interests in a game, let him ask. If reading the thread, with an obvious title as to what he is asking is a burden, then don't open the thread...

Gamers are such bitches sometimes...

Well should I play DA:O first them ME and ME2 before TW2? Never even played TW1 and doubt that I would.

OMG that's like 200 hours right there if I'm fast. GG straight up one year already of play time.

Whole lotta witchin goin on lately so I figured I'd take the 5 dollar plunge and try out the first one. Cant wait to try it. Download is 8 gigs though. Got it on gog.com for 5 bucks. Seems like an amazing deal for the amount of gameplay I'll be getting out of it.

Ok, I want confirmation that the decisions taken in the original game do carry over to the sequel à-la Mass Effect. If that's the case then I won't buy The Witcher 2 now, I will instead buy the original, play it completely and then later buy the sequel. If not I'll skip the original and buy the sequel. I just want a good reason to buy the original considering that lately my finances don't like seeing so many games that I could buy, I have to control myself or else... and I don't have much time either... ugh, and the Steam daily sales on top of all of this.

In that link one of the devs talk about how you can import TW1 save into TW2. The things that carry over are some of your quest decisions and major choices will continue over.

Thanks...

Alright, alright... I'll bite, GoG.com here I come. Looks like I'll have to wait longer than expected for Witcher 2 which I was about to buy around next week, perhaps before. By the time I finish one or two playthroughs of the original I'm pretty sure that some patches and/or user tweaks will have been found around to make things better in the sequel (well, I hope so anyway). I still haven't finished a recently-started DAO game, and I still have a game-in-progress in War for Cybertron, and now I want to start playing The Witcher, great, just great.

This is exactly when I keep wondering why we can't have 50 freaking hours in a day. I need more time!

Playing Witcher for the first time...

Not thrilled, I think the lay out is very complicated...

Would be easier if spells were at bottom of screen like an MMO...

I don't think it's known as the most simplified game. Part of the reason I never really got into it to begin with.
