Should I pay an extra $50 for a higher end sonic care toothbrush?

I can't say much except the SonicCare brush is pretty damn good.
That 30-second interval timer is pretty handy, too...

I don't even know what model I have. Didn't buy it myself.

how's the maintenance for it? i heard it gets pretty nasty on the inside (something resembling growing mold)

i have the low-end model, i think. (another one not buying it) and i think its a pretty awesome deal. i just have to remember to use it. and cleaning isnt a pain or anything

I like my old fashioned manual toothbrush.

Me too... what the hell do you need an electric one for? I'm lazy but damn, I at least brush my own teeth!

*EDIT* Anyone know where I can get an eletric toilet paper dispenser?

Don't get the 4100 because it doesn't have the Quadpacer timer. Get the 4300 or 4700.

Yes, get the quadpacer model. I've been using the sonicare for about 10 years now (before Philips bought them) and have always loved the quadpacer feature. I'd like to get a 7300 for the head with less plastic, but the 4300 is a great product. I have one for travel and one for home.

SonicCare toothbrushes are worth the extra money unless you don't care about having the cleanest teeth possible. Once you use one you will never go back to a plain brush unless it's an emergency because you just can't get your teeth as clean. I had an Interplak before this and this thing is the best.

And as far as the maintenance of them goes, just run a little water over the brush while it's running after you are done and that's it. You only use a dab of toothpaste too as a little goes a long way with the SonicCare toothbrush.

I use a wire brush on my dremel at 6000 RPM 😀 Just gotta replace the brush when it starts to rust.

ah, the same as oral b then. i took apart dying/broken ones i had. nasty sh*t inside, u'd think they'd make em more water proof, but nooooooo. dug out sediement from the gears a couple times.

ah well, they gotta make sure u gotta buy a new one sooner or later😛

I use the Homedics sonic brush and love it.
At first it grew some funky stuff inside so I just stated taking the brush head off after every use so the air gets to it and now it's fine.
My dentist says they not only clean better but help out your gums.
When you rake the old style brush over your gums it actually causes them to recede. Yikes!

SonicCare toothbrushes work AWESOME. Besure to floss and scrape your tongue. Then use one of those mouthrinses that get rid of VSCs and kill germs. The gums, teeth, and girlfriends will thank you for it dawg!!

i'd like to see you vibrate your toothbrush as fast as the sonicare...

btw sonicare was developed right here at the UW 🙂

how long does the motor last before it can't really hold a charge anymore?

I think they say you can use it for about 5 days or so without charging it if it starts at full charge.

To those who think spending this much on a toothbrush is dumb obviously has never tried a Sonicare brush. It's DEFINITELY worth the extra cash considering how clean your mouth feels after using it. I heavily recommend it!

It does get dirty if you don't clean it. You just have to unscrew the head and clean it out like once a month or so and there won't be any problems. I have the Elite 7300 model and I love it!

I rinse mine off after I use it, remove and dry both the head and handle with a towel. I've had mine over a year and never seen what you're describing.

Same here, but I'll be cleaning it soon I'm sure.

I got one from ebay for $30 (new of course!)... I believe that the only difference between mine and more expensive ones is that lack of a pivot head.. Works great though.. I still think that my Oral B brush did a better job cleaning but it also wrecked my gums a bit.. The sonic care is very gentle and does a great job..
