Should I pay $6 extra warranty for a $29 item?

Are you really that stupid? If it isn't DOA chances are it's not going to break unless you do something to damage it.

Warranties are a huge waste of money. If you want to throw money away for no good reason then go right ahead.

although i have to agree that warranties in general are stupid, i'd have to say that my experience with sony's products are usually brief, except the more expensive ones...my $50 MDR-888 pair... they lasted until i destroyed them on my own fault.

1) You'll have to be more specific - ALL Sony products break in about 6-12 months
2) Why the hell would you buy something you know is going to break in 6-12 months?
3) Why the hell would you support Sony after their recent DRM rootkit fiasco? Do you donate money to inmates in your local prison too?
4) For $20 you can get Koss KSC-75s, cheaper and far better than that Sony garbage you're looking at. They're a favorite in the price range over at www.head-fi.org

Edit: Oh, and those extended warranty plans are for suckers. Don't get it.

and if nothing breaks anyway, go head rip them apart... that way you would be sure to get value for money spent

I just bought a vacuum (Sears). Before the salesman put any effort into selling the extended warranty, I simply said, "Don't bother with the extended warranty; I have never bought one and never will. " I generally stick to that philosophy. Although, once I bought an extended warranty for some cordless power tools for my son that I viewed as disposable (given the price). They were clearanced at K-Mart; the warranty is apparently based on the selling price, not the retail price. $6 for an extra year on tools that I doubted would last a year. Good deal to me. And, sure enough, within weeks, the cordless drill died. (drill, saw, etc. set) So, I'm batting 1000.
