Should I overclock my 1600+?

I have a good chip that will do 2100+ speeds(166FSB) at default speed. But do I have to worry able my memory crapping out? I have PNY PC2100. Is it common for overclocked ram to crap out that much past spec? Those are the only 2 things that will be overclocked since I have a Epox 8kta3+.

What do you all think?

I really don't need the extra performance but I got to thinking I am wasteing a perfectly good chip here in a way.

try it out
oc it, run memtest86
if it gives you errors, up the voltage to ram (vdimm) and/or relax timings

if it works...it works...

if not...well you could see how high you could go anyways...and maybe decide to keep it there

Oh it will do it. Just when I first got it I didnt really need the extra performance I just ran it at 2100+ for a few days and decided to back it off since it was a new CPU but now its a few months old.

I want to o/c it will little or no voltage adjustments. I ain't gonna up the voltage on my ram because it doesnt have any cooling.

How many here o/c their CPU's without any problems?

the highest i could up my fsb was to 160. 166 gave me errors in prime95 before the first torture test finished.

Yes, overclock. Don't be concerned about the CPU, but you are right about being concerned about the ram. Some of that PNY PC2100 was made with Samsung PC2700 chips, you might want to check, you could be worrying about nothing if thats the case.

I had an XP1600+ AGOIA that I ran @2000+ speeds/1.79 volts. I never had a problem after several months. As long as your CPU temps look good, and at default voltage yours probably are doing great, I would not worry. And as far as ram voltage, I would not worry about it running 2.6+volts, I personnaly would not run above that with-out good case cooling.

I ain't sure if the ram has samsung chips or not. What do I need to look for other than Samsung wrighten on the chips? I will look when I take my cooler off to lap it some.

can't you just change the multiplier and keep it at 133 if you're worried about the ram?

Not without unlocking the XP, which I can't risk killing right off. If its gonna die I want it to die slowly and not instantly 😀. Seriously does anyone have PC2100 at 166FSB without any problems and have they had it there for a while?

I thought the T-breds were unlocked from the factory? Anyway's, your ram will say Samsung on the chips if thats what they are. And what cas settings are you using on your ram?

I am running my ram on the best timeings. I know I will have to back them off if I want to run it at 166FSB. Mine ain't unlocked at least I think.

i'm in the processor of unlocking my 1600+'s multipliers and have already failed twice but my chip is fine. you really don't have much to worry about as far as long term damage goes unless you do something stupid.

Ain't gonna bother with unlocking it. I know if I start fooling with it I will kill it. Anywho I looked at my PNY memory and it does have Samsung chips on it.

the markings are:
Samsung 211
K4H280838C-TCB0

The sticker says 32ZKD STK 4459067

Any idea if this is decent o/cing ram?
