Should I only apply thermal grease to the small slug in the centre of a FC-PGA cpu?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but do I apply the grease just on the slug at the centre or all over the top surface of a P3 FC-PGA cpu?

Uh, Wasif, don't use TIM (thermal interface material). If you got a heatsink that came with a pad on it, remove it and just use thermal paste. :D

Actualy that slug is the cpu itself. So yes you only aply paste on the slug. Dont use a thermal interface pad with thermal compound tho.

Actually, scrape it off with a softer than the metal material, like a popsicle stick. You can get most of it that way, then use a solvent to remove the gum. See if you can find some Goof Off, or even nail polish remover should work. Mineral spirits and those kinds of things work too.

Pure acetone is the best I've ever tried! This is exactly the same as nail polish remover, minus possible perfume in the latter... :)
