We were sitting around the office today and someone made the comment that if I gain any more weight that I am starting to look pregnant. I retorted and said that I could lose 20lbs in 2 months if i wanted to, they laughed so I upped the stakes to 30.

My question is this, I'm 5 foot 8 inches tall and weigh ~185 and am 25 years old. He is willing to put $100 on the line. I was a wrestler in my younger days so I know how to lose weight when needed but I'm still wondering if people think its possible.

I'm not so worried about the money but more about being able to prove the point that its possible.

your thoughts?

Seeing that you're not too tall it's gonna be hard. Probably need to do lots and lots of running. I had a very easy time losing weight when I was young but it's the hardest thing to do right now.

I think 20lb is possible. 30lb I doubt.

It's doable. Start taking heroin or something, that will help.

I think it'd be terribly difficult and probably not worth the money offered.

Are you unhealthy? You should really only do it for yourself, not for money, or for anyone else for that matter.

Depending on your BF %, it can be pretty easy to accomplish if you know what to do. Which you do because you're a wrestler. Also, you'll be able to use all the tricks, like a few enemas, sweatsuits, etc. You don't have to keep it off, you just need to hit that magic number.

That being said, I don't know if putting yourself through that for $100 is worth it.

A veggie/fruit diet of 1,400 calories/day plus a lot of exercise (2hrs+ intense cardiovascular exercise a day) would accomplish that goal.

I don't know if you could do it, though, without losing a lot of muscle if your body fat % isn't relatively high or above average at least.

Losing weight healthily and keeping it off is hard.

He has two months to do just lose the weight, and there are a lot of tricks in the book. A good percentage of the weight he can lose at the end would be water weight. You can easily drop several lbs overnight with a portable heater, exercise bike, and sweatsuit. It can be very dangerous to do, but all he has to do is get down to 30lbs lost. 20lbs would be much easier. He could lose 10lbs in water weight the last two-three days alone.

I lost 26 lbs in two months. I was definitely overweight and out of shape. I took to running and being very careful about what I ate.

It was probably easier for me than others because I was out of shape and overweight. I would say in your case it would be more difficult to pull off.

If you knew how to lose weight you would know that this is not possible.

You'll be the one who ends up crying if you make this bet.

For your height/weight. Not realistic (or healthy) at all. You are looking at a caloric reduction of around 1750 calories A DAY. Considering that you need around 2000-2500 just to maintain your current weight, this is not a reasonable goal.

If you were 300 pounds and taking in 3500-4000 calories a day it's not so big of a deal. At 2000-2500 calories a day you simply don't have enough room to play with.

Go watch the Biggest Loser show. If that show doesn't make you want to lose weight, nothing will. Especially the earlier episodes from this year when they were dropping weight like nothing...

i think 20 pounds in 2 months is doable. i don't know how much more work it would take to get from 20 to 30 though. it depends on how fast your metabolism is.

i'm 5'7" (usually 160-165lbs) and i have a ridiculous metabolism. if i have to move to the next notch on my belt i change what i eat (but not quantities) for a week and i get that notch back. my normal diet is, for the most part, junk food and i switch exclusively to eggs, spaghetti, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, and chicken. it's not that bad since i don't have to do it very often or for very long ;)

on two different occasions, i didn't feel like eating for a week... i'd get hungry but nothing would sound good to me so i'd just wait for it to go away. both of those times i lost around 10 pounds and it stayed off for a long time. i never felt tired or ill and was working a fairly physical full-time job. i definitely don't suggest that this would work for anyone else though :)
