Should I make the switch?

My subscription with NOD32 is almost up. Wondering if it is beneficial to switch to Bit Defender 2008. Any one use either and their comments?

i use its free command line version for manual scans. i find BitDefender a bit slow....
from what i know, the scan engine of the 2 versions is the same.

I'd just add that NOD32 was as good as it gets. Version 3, unfortunately, has some serious problems for some applications. On a standalone desktop / notebook system it's probably going to be okay. But we've had to yank it off of our production domain entirely. It was killing servers all over the place. I hope they get the new version fixed, because it incorporates some very nice admin features which are missing in version 2.70.39 (the latest 2.x version).

If you're staying with NOD32 you might want to consider using the older version. It will continue to be supported for the time being. Eset claims that there is no difference between the two and their ability to protect a system.

I was using bitdefender for a while, but absolutely hated how much it decided was bad. It's secure as hell, but with scanning every email in T-bird and whatnot... everything took WAY too long.

NOD32 couldn't find or kill a virus my computer had.

However Kaspersky's had no trouble dealing with it.

I use KAV and Panda with great success. Used NOD a couple years ago, liked it well enough, but couldn't tell you how it is these days.

If you're referring to Heuristics only I will agree with ya.

NOD32 has top notch heuristics, but it fails (compared to Kaspersky or Avira for example) in signature-based detection. I have had NOD32 missed various malware that Kaspersky had no troubles.

Got to be NOD32 over MS. I have been using AVG free and still very impressed I have tried many as its my job to design builds for companies but still happy with AVG Grisoft Free.

I've been using AVG for a few months and I am impressed by it, it stopped a Thus worm in it's tracks. However I had to use F-Secure online anti-virus to find a W32/Downloader and 2 TiBs entries, I was not happy. I've used NOD32 which was nice and I did use Kaspersky's once but it somehow screwed up windows, or rather I did while using it. I also used Norton System works for the longest time but got rid of it after my last subscription ran out, major system hog and it's almost harder to get rid of than the viruses that it detects.

I'd go with NOD32, Bit Defender is kind of slow.

There's a HUGE issue right now with NOD32 v3.0 and firewalls. I'm avoiding it for that reason alone. I'm paranoid as all hell with security, and I'm going with Comodo Firewall (with defense+ active), Avira Antivir free, and SuperAntiSpyware. All work well on Vista x64.
