Should I mail something back to Fry's for exchange, or don't risk it?

I bought the k7s5a pro/xp2400+ combo for $89 when i was out there a month ago.

when i got home and put it together, it doesn't work.

AMD will not support OEM processors. that's why it's OEM. if something happens, it's the responsibility of the reseller.

but that said, they will do a 1 time curtsey exchange. the new cpu will have no warrenty what so ever. BUT they don't have any 2400+ oem processors in stock. they have a 2200+. they won't give me a higher one since it is a curtesey for them to even to offer to exchange it.

I talked to Fry's. They said i can mail it back to them, and they'll mail me a new one. But i am not too confident on this.

What's your take?

If they gave you an RMA number and an address to mail it to you should be pretty safe, or are you talking about just mailing it back to the store?

That aside, I would be more suspicious of the motherboard than the processor. The K7S5A is a good board, when you get one that works. They have a pretty high rate of being defective from the factory. Also, when you bought the package at Fry's it may have been a return, even if shrinkwrapped. They're good about doing that sort of thing.

when i called the store, the guy said just mail it back w/copy of receipt and a note saying it doesnt work and u want it replaced.

no rma, or aynthing. just use the addr on the receipt and make it c/o store mgr

that's why i'm hesident

i called again. fry's las vegas is clueless on how to exchange stuff via mail.

got xferred to service. then got xferred to service mgr. he sent me to customer service who xferred me to her supervisor. now i'm on hold to talk to the supervisor. 🙁

looks like i'm going back to amd and getting the lower speed processor 🙁
