Should I let the turbo in the RDX cool before i turn the car off?

Depends on how you've been driving it. Usually, newer stock turbos don't need a cool-down period unless you have been pushing it VERY hard...if that's the case and you've been flooring it and nearly redlining at every stoplight, then it's recommended you drive conservatively enough to not use the turbo for the last minute or two of driving. If you're just driving around normally, no need to cool down.

Edit: The RDX basically comes with a built-in turbo timer...

Quote from Acura site:

Water passages in the aluminum exhaust manifold help keep the temperature within the exhaust system at optimum levels for both the turbocharger and catalytic converter. The turbo housing is made of austenite stainless cast iron for durability when exposed to high-temperature exhaust gases.

When the engine is shut off, coolant continues to circulate due to thermal convection, helping to prevent long-term heat-related damage to the turbo bearings.

Also, the RDX uses synthetic oil standard so there's an even smaller chance of damaging the bearings or "cooking" the oil.

A stock turbo that hasn't been pushed hard in the last several minutes of driving shouldn't need a cooldown period. Maybe let the car idle for an extra 10 seconds before shutting it off.

Modern turbocharger vehicles that are cooled with engine coolant do not require any cool down period.

Thanks for the help, i also was wondering does the turbo have its own oil loop or does it use the regular engine oil ?

It uses the engine oil.

What you want to avoid is gunning it up the driveway and then shutting it right off. With a modern well designed system, you probably still wouldn't harm it, but it's poor driving anyway, so avoid it.

Guy loves his RDX.

You should join the RDX forum.

I was actually thinking of buying an RDX with tech package in the day. Just ended up keeping the current car. It's still on my list for next car purchase

Unless you're doing runs over 100 - 140 MPH, say on the autobahn, no you don't need to let it cool.

Maybe with normal driving, but after some spirited driving or after an autocross lap you'd be stupid to shut her down... period.

I got an RDX as a loaner once for my TSX. Ok car, but I'm not a Crossover/suv person. Gas milage turned me off too.

New more realistic EPA mileage estimates as of February 2007 are 17 city and 22 highway.
