in relation to my previous amp threads.....

so i have this oooold jensen XA2250 amp...wasn't supposed to last long, but it's 6 years old now. For the last 6 months or so it keeps randomly shutting off as I'm driving. If I open the trunk and knock on it, sorta like I'm knocking on a door, that gets it to turn back on. (mind you, the amp is still lit up, just the 'protect' light comes on). Nothing changed in my setup to trigger this, and it happened more and more often over the last several months. So recently I got a new car, wired everything in, and had the same problem. Now my ground wire had a crimp in it (i used 2 shorter sections to make a longer wire), and this is the same one I used in my new car. Last night I swapped out ground wires, and the same thing happened. But here's the deal: I knocked on the amp, and it started to work....and it worked all this morning, and just now as I drove to lunch. Usually it doesn't last more than 5 minutes without shutting off. And if the car was running recently and I start it up again, it almost never works until I knock on it. So now I'm wondering, should I get the Infinity REF1211A I had my eyes on...or stick with this one? I've opened the Jensen up and can't see anything that blatantly needs repairs, if that helps you guys decide any.

Jensen amps have problems with overheating. I had one and got rid of it cause it did the same thing. Would shut off randomly.
