Should I keep 512 GTX on preorder?

I have a 7800GTX 512 on pre-order from monarch. Just wondering if it is worth it?
Or should I dump the GTX and go for 2x7800GT's in SLI? or a single 7800GTX?

Not really sure what to do at this point but I really just don't want to wait till Jan. to get my vid. card.

I heard that 2xGT's in SLI can beat a single 7800GTX512. I just want input from the people here at anandtech forums on what I just do with my GTX 512. Cancel the pre-order? or keep it?
I can afford 2x7800GT's but I can't get two GTX's. But is it worth the extra hundred to get the GTX's in SLI?

The GTs are definitely a better deal right now. I don't think you can beat two of these for price/performance at the high end right now, which is what I got.

So I guess it's time to cancel that GTX512 now. And I even save $150 by doing it.

The first one seems to be a slightly better buy. The only difference between those two is the 10mhz on the core, which I don't think is worth $20 per card.

screw it... i got read some news that arround jan 26 R580 launches and so will Nvidia G71. SO that will make your buy look like nothing :(
So i recommend you to buy 2x 7800GT , i would suggest the gigabyte one since it comes with an awesome cooler or evga.

I agree, thanks I'll go for the first one then.

Yeah, they both have that. The 470 one is called the "CO edition" and the 460 is the "CO SE edition" on evga's site.

Wow, seems like there is more too it than a 10mhz clock difference. Seems like you get TWO more letters with the 460 clock one. WHAT A DEAL!!!!!1111!!!!!

I'm aiming for that myself. I am just waiting for my motherboard to come in now. Can't wait to play some games on these.

OCZ DDR500 Plat. (Inferion)
Opty 175
X-fi
Case

I'm waiting on my A8N32 mobo, and thats about it.

SO, would you agree that it's not worth $150 to got for a GTX. (thats $300 more for SLI).
I think so. Just wondering what you think.

get the lower one, since eVGA warrants overclocking to full extent even if it dies

just oc to the 470 or higher , save that 20!

Alright thanks. I just looked at some bechmarks and the only diff. between the GT and GTX are like 10 fps. And Dual GT's bet the GTX 512 any day of the week.

Thanks for all the help on this one and thanks for saving me $150 to spend on...I don't know?
Probably some games like the bf2 expansion.

I don't think it makes much sense to get GTXs over these. From the reviews I've seen, one of these CO cards at stock speeds is surprisingly close to a reference speed GTX and is faster across the board if overclocked a bit. This article has some benchmarks; they test the 470 version, but there is hardly any difference and you can just add the extra 10mhz yourself.

By the way, there is some promotion offer going on with these cards with some resellers. They apparently ran out of the COD2 copies that they used to bundle with these cards, but will be announcing some "big name game" to replace it, whatever that is.

Wait, SLI has a power load overhead over a single card & not all games benefit from SLI, not to mention heat issues and noise for 2 cards. If I were you and could afford the 512GTX, go for it. You will be happy with the single most powerful card around.

Have you seen any benchmarks lately? I can afford a 512GTX but really can't wait. Plus on every game out there 2xGT's are always faster than a single 512GTX. Plus it saves me money!!!

Also I will be running my games at 1280x1024, that doesn't change anything right?

Yea, but I have the money for the 2xGT's ($600). But not the money for 2xGTX's($900).
They perform almost the same. The average diff. is like 10 fps which is questianalbe too since you can OC GT's to make up for it.

Wizboy, unless you are going to buying a new monitor to support resolution above 1600x1200, sli gt are going to be a waste. Capt caveman has it right.
