Should I just get my entire car repainted?

So I had the parking lot bump and run earlier, and today I noticed a foot long scratch on the bottom of the passenger side door panel that has started to rust. I think between getting both of those things fixed the car is going to end up getting repainted from the front bumper to the rear quarter panel. Should I just get the entire thing repainted while I'm at it? How much does a decent full paint job cost. Does it cost extra to change colors?

 
Full paint job, without prior removal of lights, antenna etc. should be over $1500.
Now if you are changing colors, I think the cost would go up a lot, considering all door jambs would need painting as well.

$1500? what car does the OP have? i got my nissan 200sx with heavy oxidation on the roof and trunk (almost an extra $100 for the oxidation) prepped and painted for $500 with a 2 yr warranty. if he has a newer/expensive car, maybe. you can negotiate paint job prices. just read he wants something decent...my paint job made my car look like it did when it was new but i think the quality is only average. idk but i don't think OP should pay more than $1500.

$500 = shit paintjob

 
In NJ $500 won't even get the dents out, let alone a Good Paint Job.
A full quality paint job, entails media blasting to the metal, fix / fill
any dents, prime, wet sand & block to find any blemishes, then 2 coats
of Color and 3-4 coats of Clear coat .. all with a light sanding in between.
Follow that with a professional polishing job and you can easily spend
over $2000 on it.
 
You've got solutions for $20 all the way up to $5000, depends on what the car is. If its a cheapo junker just grab a can of rust stopper, scrape the flaking rust off and fill the crack with a crayon matched to your color. This actually works pretty good. The crayons are available at various auto parts stores, you will probably have to try several to find them though. Ive seen em in murrays, autozone etc, but you may have to find a specialized paint store. I wouldn't try to get a spray bomb and patch it yourself, that never goes well, but the crayons fill the scratch and hide it pretty well.

As several others have said, a decent paint job can be had for $500, but it usually involves hitting up a Macco during their slow times. The color match should be decent and durability will be questionable, but if your car's only worth $4k or so, no point in dropping much more to paint it.
 
I have a ford focus that needs repainted and to do the entire car + remove all the little dings and dents I was quoted $2300.

To change the color I was quoted an extra $300 and that was to change all the paint that is visible to the new color.


Then if you change the color, you need to re-register the car with the state.
 
Wow, $500 bucks will barely get you supplies to paint a car. Thats about the price I would expect to pay if I did everything myself for a automotive quality paint. Primer is ~100 for a gallon, Paint around the same price or higher, clear coat is some more cash, and you're half way there easily.
 
So sad, you must repaint all the car =(
