Should I jump on the Patriot 3200+XBL Memory?

~$110 + tax at NewEgg.

I built my dad an A64 rig out of spare parts I had and some parts that I had to pull from my A64 rig. One of those parts was my 512mb stick of PC3200 memory. Thus leaving me with no memory for my A64 rig.

This is a free ticket for me to upgrade my memory, but I don't know if I should spend 2x as much as ValueRAM on the TCCD chips. I'm not a huge overclocker, but I do want to play around with the TCCD's.

Should I jump on this or wait for a better deal (e.g. Outpost had some Kingston HyperX w/ BH-5 for $70 for awhile)? Outpost still has the HyperX (non BH-5 for $70 AR, but I bought a stick @ Fry's and it wouldn't post at it's specific timings and numerous people are reporting bad chips.

Value RAM would suffice for most people using an A64 by just setting a lower memory divider, but the Patriot XBL will get you 2.5-3-3-7 @ 260+ Mhz if you feel you need it.

Yes, I know about the power behind the chips. I'm just trying to reason with myself if it'll be a wise purchase 😉

I recently picked up the Patriot XBL (512x2). Good memory, but not a great upgrade. It can hit 260 3-3-7 at cas 2.5 on 2.8v no problem. So that is great but I was expecting alot more in the way of a performance improvement. Benchmarks are maybe 1-3% faster than the Patriot Singature value ram I had been running. It's a bit faster, but defineately not worth 2x the cost. I'll stick with good quality brand value ram next time around. If you haven't purchased yet I'd spend the money elsewhere on your system.
