well, after I read Xerox Man's thread, it got me thinkin. Should I join the military or no? I'm out of shape, but losing 30 pounds+ getting to play around with some weapons (never shot anything more than a pistol before) sounds good.

I'm here in canada, so things might be different, but how hard is it? Once you complete basic training, do you have to stay in the army? If I join the Canadian Air force, will I be able to jump with parachutes? How long does it take?

Thanks for your advice.

Oh god our Military is a freaking joke...

FYI we disbanded our paratrooper unit so that type of parachuting is a nono

I'm not sure if you get to jump with a parachute to practise ejecting from a plane though...

Joining the Air Force most likely will NOT result in a loss of 30lbs... I doubt you'll get to fly a CF18 Hornet or a Hercules... probably some other POS...

Oh oh and lately I've read that many CF18's ejector seats malfunction and kill you...sure makes you feel safe your potential saviour can kill you..

If you are asking forum members if you should join the military you probably shouldn't - its not like asking for vacation advice or anything ;)

Sure, go for it, hope you don't have a problem with authority.
Because if you don't know it now, wait until someone tells you when to go to the bathroom.
;)

once you sign up for the military, atleast in the US, you are committed for a certain period of time. here its 4 or 5 years, dont know exactly. If you terminate early they'll probably court marshall your ass and end up putting you in military prison for the remainder of your term or dishonorable discharge which will fvck up your opportunities to get a good job later on if they do background checks. So dont do it unless your sure you wanna stick with it. An alternative is the reserves, you have basic training, then 1 weekend a month plus 2 weeks a year of military duty. I guess thats probably what youd want to do, you get to play a soldier once a month
