If you do get accepted they will transfer you to a different field office from the one you processed through so keep that in mind. Also if I remember right your first assignment will be four years. They will not just casually up and move you very often, or so that is the impression I get. However, like the military, that do need to meet the needs of the FBI but you do have a wish list they try to meet.
Also, it is bull about FBI agents being underpaid. I think they get paid what they deserve. You basically start off making ~$50k then it just goes up from there. If I remember right on the pay scale, after nine years you are making ~$100k. That is not too shabby at all. Then you figure in COLA and other locality adjustments as well.
