I say go 2k until XP comes out. i did a dual boot system for a while and I ended up just sitting in 2000 all of the time instead of booting into ME. If you get 98 make sure you read about tweaking it! I can get my 9x/ME to run very well if I tweak it(Cacheman and Memturbo are musts) along with programs like TweakME and some others out there. Check www.tweak3d.net for FAQs on computer stuff. PM if you have questions.

m1ke101, unless you cannot stand to loose a few FPS in Quake III, I would suggest that you use Win2k. You shouldn't have any driver problems, alteast I've experienced none. Some device drivers may be a bit difficult to locate, but you will eventually find them. Even my Hauppauge WinTV card, which is about 3 years old, is supported by Win2k.

Mackstann -

my god man, why don't you grow up and act a little mature for a change? Very rude to comment on
Shuja's typing like that. You owe him a big apology. check his user profile and you will see he is from India. The spirit of the forum encourages people from all over the world to participate, not just those who were raised in english-speaking countries like you and me.

you owe him a public apology on the forum. otherwise I have no respect for you. Anand would not be happy with your comments, as he, Shuja and I are all Indian.

Windows 98 offers no gaming advantage over Windows 2000, save for the rare game incompatibility.

I disagree here. I have experienced where Windows 98 is better than Windows 2000 for gaming. Just finish building my new computer (Athlon @ 1.5GHz) and in Unreal Tournament in Windows 2000 I would get just over 20 FPS at any resolution I tried. After I installed WinME, I get 85+ FPS constant at the highest resolution and all the graphic and sound detail settings on high.

If play or plan to play a lot of games, install 98 or ME. Preferably 98, 'cause WinME is overly bloated. I installed ME 'cause I couldn't find my 98 disc :D.

AG73, he simply made a comment on his typing. He didn't make any racial comments, I don't think he intended to either. Relax and chill out.

I'm sure these forums also encourage its users to have a sense of humor too. Obviously you don't have one.

amazonrasta-
it has NOTHING to do with racism, his comments were just bad manners. and you consider it humorous to mock someone's language skills like that? I don't, and I DO have a sense of humor. people shouldn't publicly embarrass people like that on this forum, that's all I'm saying. not a race issue at all, you misinterpreted my comments.

I'm with AG73, mackstann's post didn't make me laugh, and pointing out that his being a << An PC Businessman >> in a negative way only confirms his intent. Whats funny about that?

if games areyour focus i'd stick with 98, possibly do a dual boot. there are games that do not run on 2000 and run on 98, and it sucks when it's one of the games you wanted.

He was taking the piss out of someone who I suspect can speak and write at least 2 languages.
Though his English if far from perfect this obviously makes him a poor businessman.

He stuck both feet in his mouth.

between 2k and 98 there shouldnt be a noticible diffrence unless your using a ati cards and only because ati has horrible drivers but 2k is so much faster its not funny get it if all your hardware is supported

I personally have both WIN98 and W2K (as dual booting). I am usinf WIN98 for my professional works and WIN2K (NTFS Partition) for Networking and Games etc. Off course old version of games installed on my PC do not work well with W2K, but I am quite satisfied with Newer version of Games installed and running on WIN2K.

So if the grammer or english is bad Please do not mind,It is quite OK. I am a successful businessman and quite satisfied with my success. During my visit to Wales and Scotland (in UK) I encountered with the persons like me who were not able to speak english properly, but they were quite successful in there respective fields, and further here where is the question of racism??
Again I am not angry with anyone.. dear macstann let me know my mistakes thanks..

i started with a dual boot of 2k pro and 98se... now i use 2k exclusively. it seems smoother, doesnt appear to get as "bogged down"... i used to have to restart my 98 all the time bc my resources would get so low but i can use 2k for days at a time with no performance loss. as long as you can tolerate a few fps lost in your games and all you hardware is supported (most likely) i wouldnt hesistate to go for 2k
