I am winxp sp1 with a nforce2 board
currently i have installed the unified driver but i didnt in install the nfoce ide driver
should i install that?
will i get a performance boast?

Well when i made my nForce system i chose not to install them and it worked perfectly and later on i deciced to see if the made any difference if i did install then and to be quite frank, i didn't notice any difference at all. So id say if its working fine and your drives are not popping in and out of pio mode etc then there is no point updating them,

Supposedly, the IDE driver issue is going to be addressed in the next version of the driver package. I would (and do) use the M$ ones for now until they come out with better ones. I didnt have any issues when I had the nforce2 IDE driver installed, but MANY report issues with Nero and such!

same problems with a 8rga and 8rda when I installed the IDE drivers. When it asks you if you want to install them say no.
