Should I install Norton Antivirus?

I just downgraded from Windows XP to Windows 2000 (tired of XP bloat). I'm debating whether to install an antivirus program. I think my risk of virus is very low. I use Eudora for email, Opera for browsing, use a firewall, and a router. Should I bother with antivirus software? I would have posted this in Software, but I don't think this really relates to software... more to philosophy.

If you don't download warez, etc and you are pretty careful then maybe not.

If you're sure everybody in you're address book is mail worm and won't accept or open any attachments, and sure that every website you visit will be free of malicious code, don't bother.

People always have ways of surprising you.

Yes, install some anti-virus program. Viruses/Worms are enough of a pain in the ass if you "accidentally" get infected to warrant running AV software.

I was in EXACTLY the same boat you are now and I thought, I can skip it. I am careful, so I probably don't need it.

Then my rig started doing goofy sh*z and I thought, maybe I better check it out. When I investigated I was loaded with viruses. I THOUGHT I was being careful, but stuff got by me. I had to reformat and I've installed NAV2003. Newegg has it (Norton) in the OEM version for $20 occasionally. That includes a year's worth of virus updates. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

It has saved me more than once and has never let me down.

Forget Norton, AVG all the way. Its free!!!

Plus, its not intrusive like the other anti viruses I've used.

Yes install it, or AVG.
My original post was missing the [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] tags.
