Should I install 3rd party firmware even if I don't use the extra features?

I am installing a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 wireless router in my girlfriend's 2-bedroom apartment. I'm buying the WHR-HP-G54 because I heard it gets excellent range and good signal strength, which will come in handy once we move into a bigger place. My question is whether or not it is worthwhile installing 3rd party firmware (e.g., tomato, dd-wrt, etc.) even if we don't plan on utilizing any of the extra features. We are basic internet surfers...we don't game, d/l big files, or do anything exciting. Given this fact, my intuition is not to install special firmware and instead keep the current manufacturers firmware. However, I've heard that installing 3rd party firmware can improve "connection stability" and lead to fewer dropped connections. If that is the case, then I would consider using 3rd party firmware only for that reason. Do you think this is a good enough reason alone to install Tomato or DD-WRT (or any other 3rd party firmware) on my Buffalo router?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Welcome to At network Forum.

The stock firmware is a good stable firmware.

There is No gain from the 3rd party one unless you need he extra features.
