Should I have waited for the 5900 Value? Specs included!

I just placed my order for the 9800 Non-Pro and after reading BoomAM's post in the "R420 Specs" thread, the 5900 Value seems so impressive.

Here they are: (http://www.notforidiots.com/GPURW.php)

NV36

- 256-bit memory bus with 325Mhz memory ( note: all memory figures on this website are RAW )
- 82M Transistors @ 500Mhz
Summary:
- Made on IBM 0.13u, 82M transistors, 500Mhz core clock
- 256-bit memory bus, 325Mhz memory ( 128MB & 256MB versions as the NV31, probably )
- Just as the NV35, marketing says it's a twice a NV31: thus, half the shader pipes of the NV35 ( no FX12, as in the NV35 )
- Named GeForceFX 5700, taped-out in May, avaibility dates unknown.

edit:

and it obviously has VIVO which i would seriously be pleased to have...so put that into consideration for my decision :D

thnks

What does the 5900 Value (NV35) have to do with the NV36 (supposedly 5700)?

Interesting. I'm not sure what half a 5900 will do with all that memory bandwidth, but it doesn't cost much extra, it sounds good to me. That said, a $300 80M transistor 2x2/4x1 5700 doesn't sound so good compared to a $300 110M transistor 8x1 9800. I'm curious to see how the two will compare, if the 5700 will indeed come in at the "5900 Value" price point.

How is this compared to the R9600P? Hopefully it will atleast get close benchmarks to the card or surpass it. I am definitly in the buying mood for a Sub-$200 Card with VIVO :D

I thought the 5900 value was going to have the NV35 core just like the 5900 and 5900 Ultra, just at lower clock speeds. Or are there two seperate chips?

the NV36 is almost twice as fast as the 9600 and in the range of the 9800/5900 realm. its going to be about $280-300 and carry the NV35 core.

Same core, slower speeds. Twice as fast as the 5600.

Um, I didn't hear about the NV36 being twice as fast as the NV31. I just heard that the NV36 is half a NV35, as the NV31 is half a NV30. That leads me to believe the NV36 will be noticably faster than a NV31, but nowhere near twice as fast. Maybe up to 30% faster given the same core speed and memory. Obviously, it's not getting the same memory--we'll see what happens with that.

Stardust, can you provide xbitlabs linkage on NV36 = 5700 = 5900 Value? I can't find it.

Sounds interesting. How will it compare to a $100 cheaper 9700np?

This is the early assumption:

X-bit labs

On the other hand, NVIDIA may call the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra clocked at 400/800MHz as the NV36, just like the company did with the GeForce2 Ultra, renaming it to NV16 from the original NV15 (GeForce2 GTS) after boosting core and memory clocks substantially. In the fourth quarter of this year or in the first quarter of 2004 NVIDIA also reportedly plans to launch an improved version of the NV36, the so-called NV36X.

Later they had another article but its phased out with the other clickies on the site to the bottom:

the article i saw was this one which supposedly was phased out of the X-bit servers for some reason

Thanks. I knew about Uttar's info, but I guess I missed that xbit link. I hope nVidia won't take up ATi's new practice of using the same name with an obtuse qualifier for half a card (like the 9800 "SE"). As if 3D naming conventions weren't kooky enough....

get a Voodoo 7900 when they come out i hear they are going to be great

ohhh sorry i'm living in a world where 3D FX still exists and are still making good cards

:)
