what should my sympathy meter be for someone whose household pulls in $240,000 a year, then had to take out $40,000 in retirement which caused them to get raped by the AMT?

It's currently reading "Meh"

Mainly because I got the whole "JUST WAIT UNTIL THE REST OF THE MIDDLE CLASS SEES WHATS COMING!" routine, when that is pretty much crap.

Keep in mind, I'm talking about St. Louis area standards, this ain't new york. I just don't get it how people live like middle-low class people who make this kind of money.

where the $@#$ is all that money going?

Your post has almost no relevant information. Good job!

Your sympathy meeter should read OVER 9000!

Yea. They are better off than you so screw 'em. They aren't human and don't deserve your sympathy.

OP you do realize that most people here got no clue what amt stands for.

Speak for yourself, I knew what it meant.

You do know what most means, right?

I can't think of a single person I know in real life who doesn't know what AMT means.

15% of households with incomes between $75,000 and $100,000 must pay the AMT

This was never the intent of the AMT. at these ranges hell even up to $150000 filing jointly is going to hit damn near every married professional working couple that I know.

$150,000 just ain't what it use to be.

OP-why should you feel sorry?

Because what is happening with all of this tax stuff is plan and simple.
We are penalizing people for hard work. Make more pay more.
What will happen is people with the means will start to adjust there finances around these new tax structures and most are small business owners who employee large number of people in the US. When small business is saddled with taxes it is passed on to each and every tax payer.

That is why it should concern you.
