Ok so a while back a friend who happens to be a girl calls me up at 6pm. She wanted me to drive out to the port authority in new york and pick her up from the bus depot and drive her home. I asked her what time the bus would be pulling in, and she said 1am. So i told her HELL NO. Mainly because I had work the next morning, and picking her up, dropping her off at home, and then going back to my house would have meant I would have gotten like 4 hours of sleep that night.

More than anything she didn't want to go home by herself so late at night. The way I see it, is that if she didn't want to get home so late, she should have taken an earlier bus. Needless to say, I said no, and she has not spoken to me since...

drama queen?

and keep in mind, shes just merely a good friend, at the time i had a gf and all that...

don't worry. she was just trying to use you for a ride.

but it really depends on how close of a friend she was. if you guys were super close, than you would not have thought about the time issue and helped her out. and for her to just not speak to you about something like this, it shows she isnt a great friend to begin with.

True, and this happened back in August. seems a little petty to me...i had known her for about 8 years or so...but had grown apart in recent years...

would you want her to pick you up in a similar situation? I think you know where I'm going from here.

Wow, it's been that long since you last spoke to her? Shows how petty she is... does she not realize you drive up to Conn. for work? Don't talk to her unless she calls first!

ya, if it were "one of your boys" it might have been diffferent. But even my best friend would have gotten the finger. But if I had 24 hours notice, I would bend over backwards for a friend. Calling up i nthe middle of hte night simply doesn't fly.

I've gotten a phone call at 4 in the morning, and been on the first plane to Spain to help out my best friend before.

well if it was 4am, and it was life or death i would have done anything for a buddy, but in this particular situation, it was less than 24 hours notice, for a ride home from the port authority which IMHO does not really warrant a pickup especially since the trains are so easy to take in nyc. and if she were so afraid of taking the damn train home, she could have taken an earlier bus...at least thats the way I figure it...

and yes, johnny i haven't spoken to her in that long cuz she IS that petty...

It wasn't. She was using you. Good job for not picking her up and don't call her until she calls you.

I guess you know my answer, but in that situation, I wouldn't have picked up the girl. Frankly, I'm of the mindset that in NYC especially, you can always find a mode of transportation home. Granted, I can clearly understand security concerns for a girl at 1 AM, but c'mon, it's NYC, there's probably 10 cabs right outside that would've taken her home.

Why people book travel plans solely based on price, as opposed to factoring in things like security and convenience, I still don't know.
