Going to grab AC2 as a filler for my Gamestop B2G1 Free sale. Never played AC1 or 2 so should I grab/play AC1 first?

AC1 can be gotten for less than $10 so its not that expensive.

It'll help with the story. Were I you I'd rush through AC1 as it gets pretty repetitive, AC2 is a much better game.

I SUFFERED through 1. It is so boring. I think 2 is one of the best games of the last couple years.

If I were you, I'd just watch the cutscenes from AC1 on youtube.

The story in 1 isn't REALLY necessary for 2, but helps a bit. Definitely play 1 first because it was never great in the first place, and then looks awful in comparison to how good 2 was. I wouldn't pay any more than $30 for 2 though, because it took me less than 40 hrs to 100% the game and there's no other difficulties so the replay value is zero here. Really you could get away with renting it.

Well 1 is available for under $10 and 2 is available for about $15.

Well, $10 isn't bad for AC1. If you're just interested in the story though, just go read the Wiki page. :D

Gotcha.

I think I will grab just AC2 for now and read up on 1.

Thanks

Good plan. AC1 is not worth playing all the way through, especially if just for the story (which I found to be pretty lame anyway).

1 wasn't bad, it was just horribly repetitive. 2 is MUCH more varied and there's just alot more to do as a whole.

I never played 1 but I'm playing through 2 right now. It is pretty great so far. The start of the game was very confusing for me since I knew almost nothing about AC1. So I'd say looking at a synopsis of 1 is a good idea, and knowing exactly what happened in 1 doesn't seem to be THAT critical to enjoying 2.

I played AC2 without playing AC1 and enjoyed it immensely. I couldn't stand the dynamic shadows in AC1 (yeah, that's the initial reason I didn't play it :p). Then I was told AC1 gets very repetitive so I didn't really care about not playing it. Tried it again recently and just can't push myself to play it.

Now, AC2 was simply amazing! I enjoyed the story very much. The whole templar/assassin conflict, the history of man and all the other connected things were done in a superb way. The way it was presented was incredible. The part I enjoyed the most was "The Truth". Though Ezio's story was nice too.

Now, I read through the AC1 wiki and frankly, I didn't miss much. So I'd say drop AC1 and dive immediately into AC2 :)

I'd say skip AC1 entirely. It was a terrible game. I have no idea why it was praised so much. AC2 is pretty decent though. Ubisoft actually (surprisingly) fixed a lot of the issues from the first game.
