Should I goto Vegas 12/21 - 12/24?

I am comped 4days/3 nights at the Venetian (5 star hotel) and it's good till the 24th.

Cons:
1) Going alone- None of my friends can go because of time, $, or familiy
2) Will burn thru 3 vacation days whereas next year i get a fresh week of personal time on 1/1/04. if i quit my job, i get paid for unused vacation, but not personal time. hopefully i will find a new job
3) Plane fare is $270 with 1 stop. When it;s on sale, i can get it for $200 non-stop. also, i'm getting 45000 points from Amex next year so that's good for 2 free tix

Pros:
1) I need to get away from work
2) Dying to try out my new strategy of playing craps
3) Free hotel room (although other casinos will probably send me free rooms for Jan)

Yes/No?

How much and how poorly do you gamble that multiple casinos offer you comps?

Oh, and it's Vegas at one of the most expensive times of the year. Take it.

a) If you enjoy gambling a lot, it's not like you're going to miss company that much.
b) If your "new strategy" works at the craps table, you'll make some friends really fast 🙂

EDIT: Realized that an improved betting strategy would not help anyone but you. It's not like your new strategy is to roll 7s and 11s to open. Sorry, it's late.

Do not go.

Pros are not an overreiding reason vs the Cons

The only thing you are losing is a free night.

Strategy will not change.

You can relax at home are with your friends.

I wouldn't go there alone. Especially for the holiday period.

Free nights aren't worth it. I've gotten free nights at far away places that I wish I never did. Because it feels more like an obligation to go. You wind up spending much more than anticipated. And the free nights wind up being less than $500 anyway. Couple that with the airfare/food... not worth it. Spend it with family.

It's a gorgeous hotel room, but I'm not sure how great that would be spending time alone in there. Maybe if you've been stressed out it could be nice to get away, but otherwise staying home looks like a better option.

you're right about the hotel as the only incentive to go. nice hotel, but who cares if i'm alone.

and i can get Sam's town for $29/night almost anytime.

thx for helping me not to go. 🙂

I'm planning on going to Vegas a couple weeks after my 21st birthday...which sadly won't be until July..but oh man..it's gonna be great. My sister's already planning this big thing for me...we're gonna party it up. w00t!

Atlantic City then Vegas...who could've asked for a better 21st?

Vegas isn't exactly hopping during those dates.

A free room is nice, but if you got it now, odds are you'll be getting them next year as well. My parents often go to Vegas and aren't high rollers by any means. However, every month they get deals for free rooms or buy 1 get 2 nights free. They get them all the time.

You'll get more free nights next year. Go when you can take a friend, get cheap airfare, and have a great time.

If you don't mind telling me, why is the Venetian offering you free nights? Do you gamble that intently? A big place like that will usually only dish out to high rollers...

i checked in for 1 night at their $119/night promotion just to see how a 5star is. NICE!

from what i've read, here's how they comp rooms:
$30,000 Coin-In per day (on average) to get a discretionary room comp.

i've only done ~$7500 coin-in on their video poker machines and maybe lost $100. and i never played any of their table games.

i have no clue why i was comped for 3 nights.

Your getting comps for a slow season. Really, around this time, anything they can do to bring folks into the casino is worth it. They give you a room which was going to be empty otherwise. Thus, they aren't really giving you much, and will take their chances on you gambling in their casino for awhile. Plus, you get a free room and think the world of the place. Next trip out, you're going to check their rates first b/c of the way they've treated you. It's like direct marketing. If you've done $7500 in a day, I'm guessing that is plenty for slow holiday season comps.

Yeah, that makes sense. If you even lose $50 in the casino, they make money on that room, and that doesn't take into consideration you coming back.

Amazing how some of their slowest times, as you say, are just a week away from their most expensive time of the year.
