If i have a AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Should i go with 64bit windows?

I mean is there draw back?

Do you have more than 3GB of RAM? Do you need to run any specialized applications that benefit from being compiled in 64 bit mode? I doubt the answer to either of these is "yes," and if you answered "no" to both, then "no" is the answer to whether you should run XP x64 or not.

I've *read* its a bit buggy/flaky/slower than 32 bit still . .

But have no personal experiance..just a few things I've read not long ago.

And like ProviaFan said...if you don't have or plan to run 64 bit apps on top of a 64 bit OS...theres not much of a benefit.

XP64. No doubt. Its just so damn smooth. (FWIW I am running 2GB of RAM Opt165 2.7). People ask this question and I am thinking, why wouldn't you want to run it?

I'm sure that was true of the beta version, but your facts are a bit out of date now.

One disadvantage is that 64 bit drivers are required (as more and more manufacturers write them, this is getting smaller), but another larger disadvantage is that many applications that depend on driver-like bits of code to function are incompatible with x64, and the authors don't feel that inclined to fix them (I don't think Alcohol 120% has been updated yet, or has it?). However, except for one buggy driver that caused BSODs occasionally on startup, I've had no x64-related issues whatsoever (the M-Audio Revolution has since been eliminated in favor of *puke* onboard audio, curse you M-Audio for never finishing the broken beta driver you released middle of last year).

I ran it for about 6 months then went back to the 32bit version because of compatability issues with both hardware and software.

The OS itself is rock solid stable and boots and runs much faster than the 32bit version.

The hardware and software vendors chose not to support it. This is the only flaw I see in it.
