Hi everyone.
I'm currently running:

P4 2.0ghz 400mhz fsb @ (2.6 w/ 533fsb).
768mb ram (1x512mb 266mhz and 1x 256mb at 333mhz). @ 333mhz
Asus P4S533 mobo
1x Seagate 120gb system drive
2x 80gig Seagate drives in RAID (Stripping, for 160gb video storage).
ATI all-in-wonder 7500
ATI 32mb PCI card (for dual monitor)
2xProview 17" LCD monitors
Pionner A05 4x DVD-RW
LG DVD-Rom
SoundBlaster Live 5.1
Adaptec firewire 1394 card
WinXp Pro w/ Sp1

I'm looking to spend around 700$ canadian for a new mobo/processor.
I'm pretty much sure I'll be getting a 2.6c or maybe 2.8c..... not too sure yet.
I hope to do some decent over-clocking. But i'm still pretty much a newbie.
I do alot of video editing and rendering, so I'm sure HT will help with that.

I'm looking at the ASUS P4C800-deluxe. I have a couple of questions though..

1) what's up with "dual-channel ECC DDR 400 memory"... do you have to use ECC memory with this board?
2) WIll i have to get new memory? ... I have a 512mb stick of 266mhz and a 256mb stick of 333mhz ram.. I doubt i could use this in dual chanel mode. Should I get two sticks of 512mb 400mhz ddr.. is it worth the extra money just for dual chanel. ram..

I guess i could sell my old ram.....

what do you guys think? ..
Thanks :)

Perhaps you should wait a little bit for Prescott it's right around the corner. =D
From what I've read and studied, no motherboard company have actually claim a 100% guarantee that their current boards, p4c800 for example, will be compatible with the Prescott chip.

Some say yes and some say no. So i say wait.

The ASUS P4C800 Deluxe Manual States that it will be compatible with the Prescott Chip....

Also To Thread Starter- You Do not have to use ECC DDR...It supports ECC if you want to put it in there though.

I recommend the Corsair PC3500 DDR 2x256 (in dual channel) good enough for overclocking...

In fact I'm running my 2.8 C on a ASUS p4C800 Deluxe at 3.20Ghz (916 FSB ) and its running cool - 32C idle...for your info this can run as hot as 70C according to intel..but mine hasnt gone past 47C.

I recommend you get the 2.4C ...save a hundred bucks...then wait for prescott which can run on Asusp4c800 Deluxe...It is a great board!

Kitten killers!

<Ahem> I know for the P4P800 they took Prescott support off the Web Site, but I just checked and they're keeping it up for the P4C800. Don't buy Asus, if you have a problem they'll treat you horribly. Wait a couple of months to see what supports Prescott, that way you're not stuck with a dead-end technology.
