i have 2 trinitrons at my disposal.... (17" 'ers.), and 1 of the old non flat screen crt's (17" as well). should i go with a 3 monitor setup?

Here is my setup now...

if i go with 3 monitors, i wont have any desk space left. but, i make up for it in 3 monitors!

i'd have to buy a new video card, some crappy PCI slot video card.... probably a geforce 2 mx pci slot card.

that way i'd have 3 monitors. my current card has analog and DVI outs. i'd need to buy a DVI converter too.

should i buy a 3rd trinitron? i think they're discontinued... maybe not. i'll have to see about that.

what you all think?

3 monitors would be cool. For gaming i think you'll need a matrox perhelia to stretch the game over 3 monitors. Try 2 maybe that's all you need. Sony dosent make anything under 21" monitors now i think, i could be wrong.

Sell one of the 3 monitors and build a 2nd computer to use your 2nd monitor with.

Lol. You can't argue with logic like that.

i think that you should just use the 2 trinitrons. the difference in tube between the 2 trinitrons and the non-trinitron would be annoying IMO. to me, multi monitor setups only work well when the monitors are pretty close matches.

Get as many monitors as you can get crankin dude I use alot of AUDIO software MULTI monitors are essential for me I have my main sequencer SONAR on the main 1 and all of my Audio plugins and soft synths on the other At times i have up to 30 plugins associated inside a project so being able to have the most commonly used ones allways onscreen sves me about 10,000 mouse clicks a year LOLOLo \
BTW The 3rd monitor on the PCI slot will give you the sh*ts dont bother with an ultra cheapie (s3 trio etc) Thyre not even worth looking at try to get a cheap TNT64 or one of the last geforce 2 pci cards they dont cost much good luck

well, the main reason for the 3 monitors would be the surround gaming. i dont want it for anything else....

besides showing other people, making them say "damn!". that's what would make it worth it. :p

anyways, in regards to specifics. would the 3rd monitor on the PCI slot use the PCI's video rendering, or would it go on the 9700's? i would rather it go on the 9700's, instead of using some damn pci slot card's rendering.

i have an old geforce 1, would that work? or are they AGP? i really dont know...

then don't bother unless you are willing to ger a Parhelia. the Radeon series does not support 3d acceleration over 2 displays, and how you thought you could sync up another card with what the radeon was doing is beyond me.

I don't know much about gaming with multiple monitors, but I love having the tv picture in my center monitor, a browser or email on the left, and IRC on the right.

Very few games support dual-monitor setups. You're probably going to be gaming on only one monitor, most likely...
