Should I go to IE7 now?

I keep seeing reports that if you still use XP you should at least go to IE7. I know about Firefox, etc, but I want to know about IE7.

If I do use IE7, I believe we can do an uninstall and revert back. I know...google is my friend...but most searches tell about IE7 Beta.

Also, I like tabbed browsing, but have as yet to be able to make IE7 open in a new tab without right clicking a link or favorite. I want it to open a new tab like Maxthon does.

P.S. I know this as I did put IE7 on an older system and the Tabbing issue bugs me. I use Maxthon on it, but felt IE7 should be able to do this.

TIA

IE7 is more secure than IE6 (based on known exploits and design). IE7 on Vista is the best bet, but still better even on XP.

I don't believe you can uninstall IE7 once installed, you must system restore back to before the install time to remove it.

As for tab behaviour, there is a setting in properties if new links open in a new window or new tab. You probably want to set it to 'new tab' (I have it set that way as well)

Thank you, Bill. I will look into opening in New Tab, but I had thought I had it set that way now. In my older system, I have to hold CTRL for ie7 to even open, so some popup or something is also wrong!

***UPDATE*** I tried it but it still opens a Favorites site in the same tab.
I guess you meant tools-internet options-tabs. Properties shows nothing about tabs.

You mean, click on a link and have it open in a new tab? That's middle mouse button click.

Also, there are a number of tweaks and links to good add-ons at enhanceie.com. I'd definitely get one of the search add-ons as ie7's default ctrl-f find is retarded.

you can uninstall IE7 just fine through add/remove programs. I've done it before.

I later heard that. I guess when you do that it reverts back to IE6.

I still have a strange issue with the older system. IE7 seems fine on my ID, but when I try my wifes ID, it beeps and will not open. If I hold the CTRL key it opens OK. I tried starting it from accessories with no plugins and it opens. I then disabled the addins like phishing and popup and it still will not open.

I must have been thinking of one of the betas or something then, thanks for the clarification.

It was the IE7 Beta-1 that stated that once you commit, you can not go back.
It made me leary of using Beta-1 on a primary system.

yeah, it reverts back to IE6.

Could it possibly be a bad shortcut?

My issue with the ie7 not starting on my wifes id is not a bad shortcut.
I will triple check, however.
