Should I go to E3 or take a job for $20 an hour?

I have tickets for E3 (they were free) because one of my friends owns a small video game company. I also just got offered a job for the summer that pays $20 an hour (I am a University student still), which is better than most of the jobs available here. Should I take the job and ask for a week off after my first week? Or should I just go to E3 and hope I can find a job that pays decently when I get back?

EDIT: There is one more possibility... I could always tell them that I have had plans for a while to go to LA with some friends and would like if I could have the time off. If they say no then oh well I tried. The job is a government job and not in the field I want to work when I am done school, but I can work there part time on weekends during the school year.

EDIT 2: Went to E3, it was awesome, got a better paying job when I got back.

Just be up front and let them know that you'd have plans long before you took the position. They shouldn't have a problem with it. If they start to get a little soft then take the job, imo; the experience will be far more valuable in the long term than the E3 experience.

You have to be an employee at a video game company... or pay $700 for tickets. My buddy just faked employment records for me and a few of our friends.

Are you seriously that stupid? Obviously take the job, then just see if you can get that time off.

Seriously - you'll be hard pressed to find work as a fresh employee at a company for $20/hr. I was making $21.50/hr at my last co-op and that took me 4 semesters of working there.

You could probably make $400 for the tickets easily.

Edit: Actually I just checked and it looks like it might be difficult to sell the tickets. You'd still be better off in the long run taking the job. $20/hr is about $500 after taxes that you'd be out if you took a week off (they won't give you paid time off).

The experience? He is a college student, and although he didn't specify, it doesn't sound like this job is in his chosen career. What valuable experience is he getting that he can't get at another job?

go to E3 and party. Live it up. when will you get to go again?

E3.

Unless you REALLY need the money (debt) you can ALWAYS earn more £££ later. Waiting a year for E3 is again is going to be a long wait...

Enlighten us to where could a student obtain summer employment that pays more than 20/hr?

Take the job. E3 is going to suck hard this year.

Party it up? Unless you personally know people in the industry, getting invitation to after party is difficult.
