Should I go for IPS?

I realize that for many people the answer to this question would be obvious but I find myself wondering. I'm currently using a fairly old Samsung 226BW monitor with a TN panel, lately I've been having issues with it (think i got some bad caps flickering on turn on etc...) and I figured now would be a good time to upgrade it. And this is where I'm at a loss, the monitor will be used for gaming and watching movies/tv shows. I don't do any color critical work and honestly except for the not so great whites my current LCD has I don't really have a problem with its colors. I would like a 24" 1920x1200 monitor but those are becoming incredibly hard to find these days...
I'd love to get the Dell U2410 but its too expensive for me.

Basically I've looked around (and the monitor selection in my country is hardly stellar) and it seems that if I opt to go for IPS my only real option is the Dell U2311H which from what I've read is a great monitor with low input lag and no visible ghosting being rated 8ms G2G. Sadly following the recent trend its a 1080p monitor but I guess I can live with that my only real problem is that its 23" and not 24". And so I'm finding it hard to decide what monitor I should get. An older model Samsung 2443BW that's 24" and 1920x1200, one of the newer LED backlit 24" 1080p LCDs or just forget the extra inch and 120 pixels and go for the U2311H IPS?

I think the new latest LCD and LED TN panels have really improved lately over the older TN panels you really should check them out for your needs.

Some people like to make a big deal about IPS monitors. But I love my Dell SP2309W and it's only a 2ms (g2g) LCD. Monitors in the least year & half have gotten really good. I'll second the newer LED Dell monitors are worth looking at.

My only real problem is that all the recent monitors are 1920x1080 and I'd really prefer a 1920x1200 monitor. Considering a monitor is a long term investment I'm actually considering the U2410 but after reading that article I'm having second thoughts. Have the issues been fixed with the later revisions of the monitor such as A02/A03? Ive read about the problems with the U2410 but that was mostly A00/A01's as I recall.

Be apprised that U2410 is also wide gamut. Some people are simply not willing to put up with that.

I don't think I want to risk it with Dell after reading up on the numerous tinting issues and other problems their new monitors have.
At this point I'm wondering if I should go for the older Samsung 2443BW 1920x1200 or one of the newer LED LCD's like the Samsung BX2450 or LG W2486L. Would there be a noticeable quality difference between those and also compared to my old Samsung 226BW? I don't mind getting an older model and don't really care much for LED backlighting but im not willing to compromise on quality as Ive heard that TN panels got much better the past few years.

Fwiw I researched and had access to a number of monitors to test out but they were the late model LED’s not the older 24’s at 1900x1200 you’re now looking at. vs. your older Samsung. So I can’t comment on that. I went with the Samsung P2770FH ($269.00) as my main monitor and the Samsung LED XL2370HD Monitor/TV ($219.00) as my secondary monitor.So if your research tells you these newer monitors are better than the models you are looking at, I would recommend the PX2370 over the other 23”s *LED's* listed below imo. But there are all very good with the exception of the LG compared to the rest of the 23's I would not go with the LG over the Samsungs imo.

These LEDS are all 1900 x 1080 but you were considering the 23" Dell U2311 and that is also 1900 x 1080 and is why I posted this .BTW I consider the Dell U2311 (&NEC EA2331WMI) and that article along with others also stopped me from going with the Dell U2311 for $249.00 from Dell outlet. But that one article really gave me pause. I could have took a chance and hoped I recieved a good one but wasn't worth it to me and esp after seeing and checking out these new LED's.


Samsung LED PX2370 Best one very bright/good colors with some nice features (see link below)
Samsung LED XL2370 Very bright/good colors and very close to the PX2370 less some angle features.
Samsung LED XL2370HD Same as that XL2370
LG LED E2350V Not as bright or as good as colors as all of the above imo.

I went with the XL2370HD as my secondary monitor do to the HD TV tuner when I not using both monitors, screen brightness and colors were very close to the PX2370 and it was $80.00 cheaper than the other two at the time. If I was just going with a single 23" monitor I would have went with the PX2370. Now the above of course is just my opinion.

Samsung LCD P2770FH & Samsung LED XL2370HD which is what I decided to go with for my dual monitor setup.

Also I'm more interested in 24" not so much 23" (not much of a difference but meh) and was looking at the Samsung BX2450 LED vs the LG W2486L but cant really decide.
Sadly I cant really determine if there's a tangible quality difference between some of the older 1920x1200 models to the newer ones. I guess I'll just get one of the newer models and be done with it just gotta decide if its gonna be a 24" or the 27" Samsung.

When I decided to upgrade fro my previous dual monitor setup I wanted to go with a 23’ IPS LCD and a 23” TN LED LCD or dual 23” LED’s. When testing different monitors I had the chance to test the new P2770FH which I hadn’t been planning on doing but the opportunity can along. I was really surprised by how good the new Samsung P2770FH monitor was for a 27’ non-LED monitor. There was no going back to dual 23” monitors after seeing the P2770FH. The P2770FH and the XL2370 was the way to go for me.

So decided on the P2770FH and the XL2770HD as my dual monitor setup. I think the P2770FH is an excellent monitor. If I had to go with just one monitor it would be a tough decision between the new P2770FH and the PX2370 for me.
