Should I go for an extended dealer warranty?

Is there any place I can find info for how much a reasonable extended warranty is for certain cars? Since the price is relatively low to what I do plan on spending, I figure I can stand to spend a little more to know that any expensive engine/tranny problems will be covered in case something does go wrong.

Thoughts?
 
Only get warranties from your vehicle manufacturer - any third party warranties are nothing but a headache, and you will have to fight them to pay.

Seems a tad high to me too.... but the GTP is a nice car. I've always liked them.

I'd ex-nay on the warranty though.
 
I think extended warrenties are B.S everytime I buy a new car they are trying to get me to buy one of those extended fvcking warrenties.

Main thing is to buy a FACTORY/MANUFACTURER extended warranty. If you buy a DEALER extended warranty, then you have to work with that dealer and you have no recourse if you don't like what they tell you. if you buy a Manufacturer extended warranty, you can go to any dealership and deal with them to have your work done.

But all in all I guess it's just up to you.

Excatly. GTPs are nice cars (I own one) but seeing as they are SCed many people beat the sh!t out of them, and the first thing that will go is the trans. Or better yet if you can break the trans with the warranty on it, you'll get a new trans. Also there is a recall on the power steering (might be only for 97, not sure about that). SC snout sometimes goes as well (might sound like the actual SC grinding, but its not, its the snout). Some things to look out for. Overall GPs and GTPs are great!
 
So did you end up with an extended warranty for your car? Where would I go about purchasing a GM warranty? I've found a few places that well discounted warranties..any specific recommendations?
 
Most warranties will not cover most of the stuff that would break on cars that are this age.....i.e window switches, etc.
If the car has the 3800 engine in it, you won't need it, that motor is bulletproof.
 
I've heard of numerous people with transmission issues related to the car, and various other issues that can easily total up to cost more than the what the warranty costs..

I would agree. I bought an extended warranty for my Durango at a Nissan dealership. When I had to have work done (3-4 different times, ~8k total worth of work, parts, spare vehicles later), I had no problems getting them to cover it.

Kinda helped too that the owner of the dealership also owned a Dodge dealership. 😛
