Should I give him the money?

My sister got married and moved to a small apartment. They decided that they didn't need two laptops (neither are very techies). Since she knew I wanted one, she gave hers to me. About 4 months later, in April, her husband's laptop was having problems, so she wanted to switch with me (his has better specs). So when I came up there, I brought her laptop, gave it to her, and took his home. I was able to fix some of the problems but not all.

In August, I was getting a new laptop, so I didn't need his laptop anymore. At the time I also had a futon of his, which wouldn't fit in my new apartment (or theirs, for that matter), so I sold it on craigslist and sent him the money -- because I had originally asked for it. I asked him if he also wanted the laptop back, and he said that he didn't want it (he had since bought a new MacBook). It sat on my shelf for the whole semester.

This month, I brought it to Dallas (I'm in Atlanta), intending to load some software on it that they could use (Slingbox). He said "I'm not lugging that thing back to NY" and pointed out that they now have Slingplayer for Mac, and he has wireless on his MacBook.

Therefore, this laptop is useless. Rather than wait for it to completely lose value, I'm going to sell it on craigslist/ebay..should I offer him some/all of the money? My mother says by twice denying taking it from me when I offered, its mine, and I get to keep it. He of course is too lazy to go about selling it himself, even though he's unemployed (long story)..

i wouldnt worry about it. he doesnt seem to care.
kicking him some cash would be a very good thing to do...seeing he is down on his luck.

it is def yours to collect on....but if u wana be nice (since he doesnt have a job) you could give him some of the money

edit:
or just buy him a nice presant for the holidays

Why don't you call and ask him? At least split the money or who knows he might say just keep it all.

Well I got $450 for it tonight on CL.

Did someone in Nigeria offer to buy it?

Nope, not a single Nigerian offer. A husband/wife team from a small town 30 miles east of Dallas drove in to by it. Christmas time FTW
