Should I give Fable or ... a try?

Well, Im pretty quick on beating games...not that I dont spend the time to enjoy them, its just that Im unemployed right now and free time is in abundance! Ive beat all the current games to date...so Im looking into playing some past games that I never really got into at the time they were launched (due to me aging and having more patience, its not that I didnt like them, just didnt have the attention span for these big epic games).

So my list of "What Should I Play" is as followed:

Beyond Good and Evil
Evil Genius
Fable
Fallout 1 & 2 (Im thinking graphics may hold this one back...I enjoyed the 3rd one very much!)
Hitman 2
Jade Empire (how is this when it comes to depth and storyline?)
Shell Shock 2
The Last Remnent (remember people saying the beginning was slow and boring...it was, what about past that?)
Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
Wing Commander 3

Have any other suggestions?

I'd rank your list like this in 2010:
1) Planescape Torment (if you haven't played it) w/ widescreen mods
2) Vampire: The Masquerade
2) Hitman 2
3) Fable
4) SS2
5) Fallout 2
6) Beyond Good and Evil
7) Jade Empire (least favorite Bioware game)
8) Fallout 1

I never played Evil Genius or Last Remnant (console port jRPG) so I won't comment on those.

Of the ones that I have played seriously:

1) Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines: Good story and ambiance. Well worth the play through. I randomly chose a Malkovian for my first play through, which added a thick layer of lunacy to the experiance.

2) Jade Empire: I am a sucker for the martial arts themes, so your experiance may vary. Enjoyed the story. This is a good console port, but it has some issues related to its genesis. I found it difficult to get back into after a break, as my fighting reflexes had faded, so best taken all the way through, imo.

3)The Fallouts (2 & 1): Great games, but the UIs drove me to distraction. I find that in a lot of older games; I can deal with the graphics issues, but the control schemes are sometimes just too awful to deal with. As much as I liked Planescape Torment (probably the best RPG ever), my latest attempt to replay it foundered on the UI again. All these are definitely worth it, if you don't find this issue to be as important.

Yeah, I found the UI in Fallout 2 to be kinda cumbersome...didnt really get it lol.

Jade Empire...I actually used to do Wushu, so Im all for the martial arts aspect of it...its just that I didnt really want to start a game that got crappy like half way through and all...

If you play Vampire, make sure you at minimum install the community unofficial patches and I HIGHLY recommend the Camarilla Edition mod.

Both Fallout and Fallout 2 with unofficial patches and screen resolution mods, in my opinion, are a must for anyone who likes RPG games regardless of their age, so I do suggest you to play them, or even Fallout Tactics which is considered as a mere side-kick to the franchise, but I for one liked it and I have yet to complete it, but I'm on it occasionally.

I really enjoyed Evil Genius... I think it's worth a play.

I might just play it again, myself. :)

Fable is a fun game. It is pretty short. You can probably beat it easily in a day or two, and you are going to want to replay it once or twice.

X-COM has eaten my free time like no other game. For a 15 year old game, I can't get enough of it. The dated graphics and sound don't bother me at all, and the limitations to the UI aren't any worse than any modern game really.

EDIT: I notice you mentioned WC3. WC4 was one of my favorite games of all time. I haven't played it in 15 years, but it is probably still a fun game.

Ive been playing Fable TLC...its a little simple (probably due to software/hardware limitations at the time) but am finding it quite enjoyable...

The more I play these older games with newer adaptations on the consoles the more I consider getting a 360 and PS3...primarily a 360 but the PS3 I must admit has some awesome exclusives (Metal Gear series and Heavy Rain, LOVED Indigo Prophecy)...so many choices...

Fable is bad. really bad. i never understood what poeple liked about it except the Black-Jack games.

The Last Remnant was great, i really enjoyed it. can be tough as hell sometimes so read guides on how to build your team so you wont be gimped.
and the second Vampire game (is it Bloodlines or Redemption?) is also a great Action RPG.

I'm all for Wing Commander 3 if you can get it to work. Though, Wing commander 4 definitely had a better story in my opinion.

Haven't played the rest of the games on your list so I can't comment on those.

The only one of these I played was Fable. I thought it was a decent game, not outstanding but not bad either. That was several years ago though, so it may feel more dated now, especially the grapics. I wish they would port Fable II to the PC. I would give it a play.
