Well, I am 16 years old and I need to buy a car..

My friend Damir has a 1995 VW Jetta. It is white with cloth interoir..

It has a clean title and carfax. It has 115k miles on it...

Recently, he was racing a Honda, when another car got on the road, the honda went between the car and a parked car, but my friend kinda messed up and scraped the side of his car.

I guess he needs new tire rods and needs the fender fixed, it isn't too major.

So, he wanted $3500, but since the accident, his parents took his license so he can't drive and he offered it to me for $2500, it cost $120 to fix the tire rods and $200 for a new fender (assuming him and his neighbor can't buff it out)

Should I buy it? Also, I would need to buy new front tires which would cost $119, for now he has some other tires and rims on the front..

Here are some pics I took today of it...

I can't think of a single good reason why you wouldn't want to buy a 1995 VOLKSWAGON.

i just bought a mint, fully loaded 99 passat 5 speed for $4,500. leather seats, sliding sunroof, 5 CD changer... and so many more extras, i wont list them. i LOVE the car, really nice, but a few things irk me. besides being my first non american car in almost 30 years... it is a pig on gas from what i am used to, but it is a v6. replacing the keys will cost me about $140 each and $85 each for valet cars. rotors are like $65 each and the gas filter is was $29.

these are things that i did not pay attention to when i sat in the leather seats with the pretty dash board, listening to the premier stereo and playing with the sunroof... but wish i did pay attention to before handing over the cash.

will you have the same issues?

Keys are not an issue... The car has no issues. It has an aftermarket cold air intake and a modchip in it too.

I am not buying this from a stranger, this is one of my close friends, he has told me everything wrong with it, and given me exact prices. I work and go to school with him..

No, i am not thinking that there is anything wrong with the car. i am just saying that when i got my car, i was caught up in how pretty it was and how fast is was and yada yada yada... and did not even consider anything else.

i was driving a 94 escort 4 door hatchback 5 speed. it cost me $25 to fill the tank. gas filters cost under $10. doing front and back breaks... rotors, pads, shoes and etc, cost approz $140. i coulf go to any hardware store and get a key made for like $3.00. i could park it anywhere and not really worry that anyone would steal it and not be heart broken if someone dinked the door.

i got a RUDE awakening when i bought the passat. i am not saying i would not have bought it if i had known... but it would have made me think twice.

115k miles? Young (immature) driver? Crashed racing another vehicle? Modchip and CAI?

What else do you need to tell you the car's been used and abused, and screams, 'STAY THE FVCK AWAY!'?

Yeah, buy it. What convinced me was the red painted stock calipers behind steel wheels that have lost their trims.

I know the car has been abused a little... He made skid marks in front of a friends house, did donuts in my yard and some other stuff, but it is still runnning good. I will probably abuse it too..

Avoid making major purchases from/to friends. Rarely does anything good come from it. Dont do it. Any number of things can happen...
1) You find some other problems with it that he failed to mention - so you blame him for it
2) He sells it to you cheap, you think you got a good deal - he thinks he did you a favor, and feels you owe him for it
3) ...
4) NO PROFIT

these things dont happen all the time, sometimes they remain subconscious, sometimes they never become an issue
anyway, just a warning. I would back out of it if i were you.

In addition, like someone else mentioned, your friend has put A LOT of wear & tear on this car. Something bad will happen to it soon.

I would stay away from it. Sounds like your buddy didnt take too good care of it by putting "modchips" in it and racing knuckleheads down the street.

holy freaking crap, kid. run like the wind.

1) you know it was driven by an idiot who street raced it.

2) you know it has been in an accident

3) you know it is a 90's VW with over 100K and that means it is falling apart and will see the inside of the shop more than the pavement. trust me, i went through high school in the 90's, and i've seen way too many of my friend's VW's kick the bucket. think about how many you see on the road today compared with how many civics or corollas. with the exception of your friend's car, they are ALL dead.

4) it's a jetta. a jetta. you will never again be able to respect yourself. jettas are for idiot teenage girls. males and adults of any kind should NEVER drive one.
