Been trying to look for a car for weeks and I don't know but, this one seems to be too cheap.

sounds alright. They are not known for reliability and it was probably beat up pretty good, so I would take a mechanic with you when you look at it.

Well it does have a salvage title.

Take it to a mechanic you can trust and have him give it the once over.

It has a rebuilt title. Meaning it was in a wreck, the insurance company decided it wasnt worth fixing for what ever reason and paid it off and the person who originally owned it off. It went to auction as a wrecked car, a salvage re builder shop bought it for cheap, put it back together, hopefully the right way and not with bubble gum and super glue, and resold it with a rebuild title.

The problems with rebuilt cars are:
Some shops do crap works and can give you trouble down the road.
May not have been put together right, and in case of a wreck, may fold up like a acordian.

If done correctly though can be as good as it was when it was new and give you no problems at all. I wouldnt take the car to a mechanic but a reputable body shop in the area and have them go over it to make sure it is structurally sound and put back together right.

Looks like a nice car.

Salvage title could mean that it was a Katrina flood car. Check around online for tips in identifying such cars. Just because it is so far north means nothing. Katrina cars are all over the place.

I wouldn't count on that. Like Safeay said, Katrina flood cars are getting around like cheap hookers. You have to be careful. Use your head when shopping for a car and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't ever buy a salvaged title car (unless it was like a 1k-2k beater car) because even if it ran fine it would be very hard to resale. Your better option is keeping an eye out for someone that needs to sell their car ASAP thus giving you a really good deal on it.

Well said. It's very important to find out what kind of accident the car was in. Insurance companies often "total" cars that are not severely damaged.

I knew a guy with an older Volvo 850 who slid off the road into a tree. The only damage was a dent in the center of the bumper and on the leading edge of the hood, a broken windshield and a small dent in the roof from the tree falling on the car after impact. Airbags also went off. No structural or mechanical damage to the car, he was able to drive it home without incident. Insurance wrote it off. Even though the damage was 100% cosmetic, the car was old enough that they just totaled it instead of paying to fix it.

On the other hand, I've seen cars that should never be on the road again get rebuilt.

So find out what sort of accident it was in. Pictures if possible.

I'd stay away from any car with a salvage title & especially from an enthusiest car like a GTI.. odds are its had a tough life even without the incident that caused it to be written off.

i usually don't buy used cars "like that" unless you're getting a toyota or honda

don't feel bad with getting used cars over newer cars becuz there was a research that the money you put into a used car and it's repairs (so long you can keep up with what's wrong and can find good repair quotes), you will have saved over tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle and the included interest in loans and state expenses of newer vehicles.

good luck if you have the budget to contintually fix it up
