It was bought on a Junk slip since the motor was blown but for no other reason from what I could tell so that is why there is a salvage title on it.
They don't issue salvage title for cars that have blown engines.

but i need to get it smogged and registered...seems like a real hassle if he himself couldn't even do it.
damn tempting...

It was bought as a junk car, but with the new engine it gets the Salvage title.

Watch your local laws regarding engine replacements and manufacturing years. Some places have laws requiring the engine to be within a certain year range of the "rest of the vehicle". :p Getting emissions could be problematic as well.

Is that a Canadian thing, because I don't know a single state that does this.
