Should I get these tires?

I have a rwd car, and my current tires are summer tires..

The fronts are still in great shape, but i need to replace the rears badly. Rather than summer tires again, I want to get all seasons, at least for the rear (for traction in snow and rain) In my tire size, there are very few options in regards to all season tires.

I found these

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...9ECDWSXL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

Decent reviews and not to bad of a price.

They are $209 per tire. My current tires (General) were $190 each and "summer" only.

My tire size is 265/30/19

Any suggestions? I need to order some tires asap.

I run performance (summer) tires all year round but I live in sunny SoCal too so I really have zero need for all season tires.

Where do you live?

I've seen mixed views on the Continentals. Some hate, some think they're ok. I have no personal experience with them. Biggest complaint is the wear and road noise.

265/30R19...Hmm. There really isn't much to pick from.

Have them on all 4 corners, decent dry grip, makes my car under steer a little bit. Amazing wet traction( best out of any tire on RWD car I have driven). Sidewalls are soft.

Its a great Daily Driving tire, no complaints Very quiet..ect. If you want something that does corners better but a more jarring ride get new summers.

oh I got 2000 miles on them.

Any questions? Ask away.

Why not go a size up or size down for more options? You don't have to run 265/30-19 every time. 255/30-19 or 275/30-19 will work without altering the sidewall height too much. I wouldn't go with a 25-aspect ratio as those are more difficult to mount on the tire, and of course you have even less sidewall (thus more harshness).

I've had mine for 400 miles for far I like them.

The main reason I got them was the higher tread rating but I've also noticed improved ride comfort.

I have the same tires on the rear of my CTS and like them. I wish the sidewall was a little stiffer, but they worked great in the 100 year snow storm we had in N.VA/DC area this year. The sidewall on those should be tighter since it is smaller then my 225/50 16's.

Wow, that's a cheap tire for 19s.

I don't buy anything but Michelins. Ever.

St. Louis, where it snows sometimes in the winter.. it's my only car atm.

AFAIK the performance of summer tires is greatly reduced at temperatures below 40°. i.e. Even if it doesn't snow at all, you still shouldn't be running summer tires in the winter.

If I were going to spend top dollar on summer tires it'd be my current Goodyear Assymetrics or Pilot Sports...

Well i know about the temperature thing.. I was just noting that it gets cold enough to snow. I guess I'm going to go ahead and get these tires. Seems to be my best choice for all seasons.

now the question is whether or not to order them from tirerack.com or NTB, which is a tirerack dealer..

They are $208 each.. Shipping for the two is $35..

So $416 + $35 = $451

Install is about $30 per tire (mount/balance) if I take them to NTB.

So $451 + $60 = $511

If I order them from TireRack and have NTB mount them, it's approx $511

If I have NTB order them, which includes shipping, it's approx $240 per tire, plus tax.

$240x2=$480

$480 x 1.08 = $518

$518 + $60 (install) = $578

I avoid tax with tirerack.com

I'd tell NTB that you're going to order them from tirerack because it's $451 after tax for the tires and shipping. They might match the price.

Also, have you called other tire shops? When I order through tirerack, I get them shipped to my house and then take the tires to a local tire place that mounts and balances 4 tires for $50 including tax and disposal.

fatwallet.com has cashback through tirerack as well.

I would not get them from NTB simply because it's NTB.

Most chains will simply say something along the lines of, "We charge more to mount tires that you do not buy through us".

Really? I just called tire places, told them I had 4 brand new tires, and asked them what they charged for mounting and balancing the new ones and disposing of the old ones. The prices varied from $50 - $100. The place I found for $50 was also recommended by a coworker, so I thought it was a safe bet. I've had 3 sets of tires from tirerack mounted there with no problems whatsoever.

Edit: The last time I went there, one of the employees REALLY liked my Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. When I told him I got them on tirerack.com for $90 each including shipping, he very quickly and excitedly jotted down the website on a piece of paper :D.

Had two sets of Continental ContiExtremeContacts (Err the non DWS ones) for my FWD 2004 Sentra Spec-V. Hit potholes on both sets and both had failure in the sidewall. Upgraded to another brand at an emergency stop at Sears and i've never had the problem since even though I still run into the occasional deep pothole. Agreed with whoever says they have weak sidewalls. Make sure you're not driving them through rough urban terrain...

I hit a metal plate that was mounted about 2" above the road surface going 40ish the morning after I had mine installed. No damage to the tire though I'm not entirely sure the alignment is still straight. (had that done with the install) The side walls on the DWS seem fairly tough.

No I didn't see the plate, it wasn't there the day before and was unmarked coming out of a curve. I came back by later and they had a work crew flagging people around it. The next day it was gone. The city wont reimburse for alignment only physical damage to the tire or car. :/

My brother is on his second set of the ContiExtremeContact and we (his car is used by all of us, but primarily him) love them.

They're fine in the dry, low/no road nice, great in the wet, and very good in the snow (as good as you'd expect a non-dedicated winter tire to be). They'll only last about what they say (they're not going to go 80,000 miles), but I think the tradeoff is worth it.

Only way to do better IMHO for an All-Season is to get another set of wheels for winter and run a dedicated winter tire then, and a dedicated Summer the other 9 months of the year.

Wow..
Michelin makes a lot of under-performing overpriced crap.
Although they do have some good models as well. Albeit almost always too expensive.
