Waiting for the next best thing is a never ending process. Get them now and enjoy. When the next best thing comes out you can ebay your 4.1s and buy the newestk, and so on and so on... .
If you have 5.1 compatable sound card, getting a top end 5.1 solution may yield better results than the 4.1 Z-560's..... But i havent heard them in person, from i hear, they're everything that a 4.1 system should be and more. I say get them now, and if you find a 5.1 system down the road you like better, sell the z-560's.
If you have a preamp/processor, you can either add another single- or two-channel amplifier to your existing setup, or opt for a six- or seven-channel amplifier to consolidate all amplification in one unit
For Dolby Digital EX playback, as with regular 5.1 playback, place the left and right surround speakers to the sides of, or slightly behind, your listening position. For the third surround channel, place an additional surround speaker, or, preferably, an additional pair of surround speakers, directly behind the listening area, as shown in Figure 2.
fade2black, since I have a complete 5.1 home theater setup in my room for watching my DVD collection, I'm quite pleased w/ my 4.1 speaker setup on my rig. For gaming use, which in my case is light, Quake and UT sound just fine on a 4.1 setup. Depending on your situation, 4.1 speakers should be fine, unless you use your computer for DVD watching. Just my opinion, hope this helps.
Go with the Z560 for now. If you don't watch much DVD, the extra channel is pretty much useless. For gaming and Mp3, the Z560 is more than enough. Honestly, it's overkill.
You can play the waiting game. At the end of the day, you'll end up with nothing but headache.
I own a set of the Z560s. They are just amazing. I definitely agree w/ the post above saying upgrade now and don't wait. Usually that philosophy doesn't work. You'll love the speakers, they'll definitely piss off your family or roommates. The Z560s are a very nice set of roomshakers.
