Should I get the CoolPix 4500 or wait for the PowerShot G3?

I'm looking to get a new digital camera in the $600-$700. Right now, I'm looking at the Nikon CP 4500 and the upcoming Canon G3. The sample pics of the G3 are amazing, but I think it might be pretty pricey when it comes out. Does anyone have experience with both cameras?
