Should i get Prescott Core?

Well Prescott is a long ways away. I highly doubt that Intel can produce it by the end of the year. If you need to upgrade your computer or get a new one, now is the right time as there will be no new products for a good six months. Don't wait for Prescott and the Athlon 64 if you really need to upgrade now, otherwise you will be stuck saying, 'I will upgrade when this comes out...' Instead, if you need it, go get it.

To answer your other question, nobody really knows how well Prescott will overclock, I would assume it would do well being 90nm, but you can never be too sure.

Why would you need anyone else to help? MrMan's answer is very good - well, aside from the comment about not getting it out this year. Currently the roadmap indicates release this year. Why do you think that's doubtful, MrMan?

About the only people who could answer your questions are the people working on it at Intel. They are the only ones who have any idea about process skew, they are the best source for any details on the feature set, and they are the only ones with any solid estimates (and real performance numbers based on silicon) of the improvements made. The engineers at Intel aren't going to say anything so any other answer that you get from anyone is going to be a wild guess.

I know a few people in the manufacturing area and they say that it is unlikely that Intel will be able to pull off mass production with 90nm by the end of the year. They suspect that 90nm will be in full swing by early 2004. So I am just passing that info on. I am definetly excited to see Prescott and A64 go head-to-head.

Next summer I will be doing an entire system overhaul so hopefully I will have good pickings to choose from.
